Project 7: Mystery

Project 7: Mystery

Goal: Your goal for this project is to create a series of photographs that explore the theme of MYSTERY. You will turn in final 6 final images that explore this theme. This will be your final digital project for this year.

For this project, you must create a cohesive series of photographs that successfully adhere to the theme of mystery. You will turn in a final set of 6 completed and processed photographs.

You may use any of the techniques and processes we covered this year: compositing, self-portrait, environmental portrait, still life, landscape, etc.

You may approach the theme in any way you see fit. We will look at examples of artists who use mystery as a theme in their work.

DUE DATES:

Tuesday, 4/5/22: In class, you will write a detailed proposal explaining your ideas for your project. You will post your completed proposals to your Weebly student website blog. Your posts are due for a grade by midnight on Wednesday, 4/6, and we will go over them together as a class on Thursday. You may also include inspiration images, text, video, etc. into your proposal, if it helps you to get your idea across.

Your proposals should be a minimum of 4 paragraphs long, with 5 sentences minimum per paragraph. In your proposals, you should explain:
  • What is your idea for your Mystery project? What subject matter, process, and type of photography are you choosing to work with?
  • Why are you choosing the subject matter you've chosen for your project? What are you drawing on for inspiration? How can you best communicate your conceptual ideas through photographs? Make sure that your concept aligns with the project theme of Mystery.
  • How are you going to shoot your images this weekend? Do you have ideas for images in mind? Will you need to secure models for your shoot? Will you need any special props to make your images? Do you plan on doing any composite imagery? Detail any equipment or technical needs here. (For example, if you plan to do long exposures, you will need a tripod. Or, perhaps you want a wider angle image, so you will need a wide angle focal length lens.)
  • Where and when do you plan to create your images? Do you have a set location or locations in mind? What kind of light will you need to make your photographs? Be aware that quality of light/time of day can communicate a mood or idea. For example, images made at twilight can signify a turning point between the safety of daytime and the covert, potentially threatening time of night.

Monday, 4/11/22: Over the weekend, shoot 100 images towards your project. You will use class time on Monday to import your images and create a contact sheet.
  1. Import your homework images in class and convert them to DNG. Label your files lastname_firstname_p7_mystery_cs1_1, 2, 3, etc.
  2. Create a contact sheet and label it lastname_firstname_p7_mystery_cs1.
  3. Turn in your contact sheet to your Project 7 folder in Google Drive. This is due by midnight.

Tuesday, 4/19/22: Over the weekend, take the feedback you were given and shoot 200 images towards your project. You will use class time on Tuesday to import your images and create a contact sheet.

  2. Create a contact sheet and label it lastname_firstname_p7_mystery_cs2.
  3. Turn in your contact sheet to your Project 7 folder in Google Drive. This is due by midnight.

Monday, 4/25/22: Over the weekend, shoot 100 images towards your project. You will use class time when you return on Monday to import your images and create a contact sheet.

  3. Turn in your contact sheet to your Project 7 folder in Google Drive. This is due by by the end of class.
Friday, 5/6/22:
  1. You will turn in 6 successful images. Your final images must be processed in Photoshop and saved as PSD files. Your images MUST pertain to your theme word of MYSTERY, and they must also be cohesive. This means they must be connected in some way, either by content or formal qualities.
  2. Label your final images lastname_firstname_p7_final_1, lastname_firstname_p7_final_2, etc. Place them in your Project 7 folder on Google Drive.
  3. These are due by MIDNIGHT on Friday. If you finish early, you may turn in your final files before the due date, but only after you have checked in with me first.
