Your goal for this project is to photograph and assemble your own compositions in the style of British artist David Hockney. You will do this by selecting a subject, taking multiple photographs of your subject at various angles, and assembling these images together as layers in Photoshop.
David Hockney is an English painter, printmaker, and photographer who is an important contributor to the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. Inspired by the early 20th century art movement of Cubism, Hockney took photographs sequentially and pasted them together calling them ‘joiners’.
"If you put six pictures together, you look at them six times. This is more what it’s like to look at someone."
Cubism was a revolutionary new approach to representing reality invented in around 1907–08 by artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. They brought different views of subjects (usually objects or figures) together in the same picture, resulting in paintings that appear fragmented and abstracted. See below for examples of Cubist paintings.
