Family Portrait

TMI PHOTOGRAPHY I
Project 3: Family Portrait

GOAL: Your goal for this project is to create intimate portraits of family (close friends may count as family). The images you create should reveal a private moment that your subject(s) would not share with just anyone, and should demonstrate the photographer knows the subject and has privileged access to their life that a stranger or acquaintance would not.

You will shoot over Thanksgiving Break—use your time wisely!
For final critique,  you will turn in 4 final prints and digital files. Your final prints must be larger than 8.5 x 11".

See below for examples of photographers who have photographed their families.

DUE DATES:

Friday, 11/19/21:
Over the break, shoot 400 images towards your project.

Monday, 11/29/21: You will use class time on Monday to import your images and create a contact sheet.
  1. Import your homework images in class and convert them to DNG. Label your files lastname_firstname_p3_family_portrait_cs1_1, 2, 3, etc.
  2. Create a contact sheet and label it lastname_firstname_p3_family_portrait_cs1.
  3. Turn in your contact sheet to your Project 3 folder in Google Drive. This is due by midnight.
  4. After this, prep your 5 strongest images for SOFT CRITIQUE by processing them in RAW and Photoshop. Label your files lastname_firstname_p3_soft_1, lastname_firstname_p3_soft_2, etc. I will pass around a flash drive during class for you to upload your images for soft critique. Soft critique will take place on Wednesday, 12/1.
FINAL CRITIQUE will take place on Wednesday, 12/8. If we need more time, we will also critique on Thursday. For critique you must have these things ready to turn in by the beginning of class:
  1. 4final, successful images printed on your large sized paper.
  2. 4 final, processed PSD files turned in to Google Drive in your Project 3 folder. Label your files lastname_firstname_p3_family_portrait_final_1, lastname_firstname_p3_family_portrait_final_2, etc.
