Project 3: AP Portfolio Mock Submission

TMI AP PHOTO
Project 3: Portfolio Mock Submission
Your goal for this project is to help you continue developing a solid conceptual idea for your AP Portfolio. Now that you've completed Project 2, you will have some idea of what idea or question you might like to investigate. This project will serve as a test run for submitting your portfolio in May. You may choose to hone in on your theme for Project 2, or choose a new idea to research.

You will start by writing another short proposal for the "big idea" you would like to pursue as you develop your AP portfolio for submission in April. Please click here to view sample portfolios from last year's exam.

This time, your proposal should be short; no more than 5 sentences. This will evolve into your "elevator statement" about your work. You should state what idea or thesis question you are investigating through photography.

AP Photography is not a course based on a written examination; instead you will create a portfolio for submission to the
College Board by May 13th, 2021. You will ultimately demonstrate your skills through your portfolio of photographs that shows the
quality and breadth of your work as well as a planned investigation of an idea of personal interest to you. The AP Art and
Design Portfolio Exam contains two sections:

  1. The Selected Works section requires students to demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas. The
Selected Works section (40% of total score) contains 5 physical (this year, it will be digital submission only) works or high-quality printed reproductions of physical works that each demonstrate synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas using 2-D art and design skills in Photography.

  2. The Sustained Investigation section requires students to conduct a sustained investigation based on questions, through practice, experimentation, and revision. The Sustained Investigation section (60% of total score must contain 15 digital images of works of art and process documentation that demonstrate sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision.
Both sections of the portfolios require students to articulate information about their work. Both sections are required.
Students earn a score for each section, and sections scores are combined to produce an overall portfolio score that may
offer opportunities for college credit and/or advanced placement. The order in which the sections are presented is not
intended to suggest a curricular sequence. The works presented for portfolio assessment may be produced in art classes or
on the student’s own time and may cover a period of time longer than a single school year.

The AP 2-D Art and Design course framework is made up of three big ideas. As always, you have the flexibility to organize
the course content as you like.
  • Big Idea 1: Investigate materials, processes, and ideas.
  • Big Idea 2: Make art and design.
  • Big Idea 3: Present art and design.

Please download the AP course description below. We will go over portions of this together in class.
