PHOTO I ASSIGNMENTS

WEEK 6: BEGIN FINAL PROJECT

MONDAY, 4.27.20
Here are this week's assignments:
  • This week you will begin shooting towards your final project. See below for more info on your project.

Photography I
Final Project: Life in Quarantine

GOAL: Your goal for this project is to create a series of 6 successful, cohesive images in response to the theme of Self-Quarantine. You may interpret this theme in whatever way you see fit. Your final images may utilize portraits, self-portrait, still life (these are objects arranged on a table with the intention of being photographed), or any combination of these themes. You will ultimately submit 5 images to the Houston Center of Photography's exhibition opportunity titled Togethering.  You can find more information about the call for entry here.

Use this project as an opportunity to express your feelings about the current situation. We are all experiencing a profound moment in history. Sometimes it can be difficult to put your thoughts into words. Let your camera speak for you.

DUE DATES:
Monday, 4/27: Project assigned. You will shoot over week towards your project. I will not assign a minimum number of images, but you should aim to shoot at least 150 images to be narrowed down to 3 for soft critique.

Wednesday, 4/29: We will meet via Zoom at 8:50 AM to go over a few examples and answer any questions.

Friday 5/1: You will turn in your 3 strongest images by noon for online soft critique. Your images do not have to be processed yet.

  • Convert them to JPEG at 1500 pixels on the longest edge. Label them lastname_firstname_final_soft_1_1, lastname_firstname_final_soft_1_2, etc.
  • Zip the files and drop them in the Google Drive folder HERE. (If you've forgotten how to do any of this, don't sweat it. Just upload your raw files.)
  • I will upload your images and everyone will leave feedback via comments in a Google Doc. Just like in class soft critique, but digital!

Monday, 5/4: Take the feedback you received and continue to shoot over week towards your project. You should aim to shoot at least 150 images to be narrowed down to 6 final images for soft critique.

Wednesday, 5/6: We will meet via Zoom at 8:50 AM to check in and answer questions you might have.

Friday 5/8: You will turn in your 6 strongest images by noon for online soft critique. You should be narrowing down to your final 6 and processing your images at this point.

  • Convert them to JPEG at 1500 pixels on the longest edge. Label them lastname_firstname_final_soft_2_1, lastname_firstname_final_soft_2_2, etc.
  • Zip the files and drop them in the Google Drive folder HERE.
  • I will upload your images and everyone will leave feedback via comments in a Google Doc. Just like in class soft critique, but digital!

Monday, 5/11: You will turn in your final 6 files via your lastname_firstname folder in Google Drive. You will also submit your 5 best images to the HCP call for exhibition located here: https://hcponline.submittable.com/submit/165364/togethering
  • Turn in your 6 processed PSD files to Google Drive under your Final Project folder. Label your files lastname_firstname_final_1, lastname_firstname_final_2, etc.
  • When you submit your 5 images to the HCP call for entry, be sure to follow the guidelines for image specs. Take a screenshot of your submission or forward me your submission email for a grade.
  • These are due by midnight for a grade!

Wednesday, 5/13: We will have a goodbye party via zoom at 8:30 AM!

WEEK 2 // 3/30 - 4.3

MONDAY, 3.30.20
Here are this week's assignments:
  • Make sure that you have set up access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Visit creativecloud.adobe.com. Using your TMI Email address, you can download and use the Adobe CC software at home. See below for detailed instructions. You will need to make sure that you have downloaded Bridge and Photoshop CC. If you have any questions, email me!
  • Go ahead and turn in your digital files for your Family Portrait project. You should have:
  • 6 final, processed PSD files turned in to Google Drive in your Project 4 folder. Label your files lastname_firstname_p4_family_portrait_final_1, lastname_firstname_p4_family_portrait_final_2, etc. Upload these to the appropriate Google Drive folder. Make sure to upload these by Friday of this week. Let me know if you have any questions.
  • I will post information about your next project on Wednesday. Stay tuned!
