DIGITAL ART ASSIGNMENTS

WEEK 5 // 4.20 - 4.24

MONDAY, 4.20.20
This week you will learn about the Adobe Illustrator workspace, how to create a new document, and how to save your work. Make sure that you have downloaded Adobe Illustrator CC onto your laptop or desktop.
Here are this week's assignments:
  • Navigate to this link to get to know Adobe Illustrator: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/how-to/ai-basics-fundamentals.html?playlist=/services/playlist.helpx/products:SG_ILLUSTRATOR_1_1/learn-path:get-started/set-header:ccx-designer/playlist:ccl-get-started-1/en_us.json&ref=helpx.adobe.com
  • Download the practice files by choosing GET FILES. This will download as a ZIP file in your downloads folder titled basics-fundamentals.zip. Locate the file and double click to unzip it. You should see 3 files:
    - Saving.ai
    - Tour1.ai
    - Zooming.ai
  • Any file ending in .ai is an Adobe Illustrator file. Similar to a PSD, it can only be opened in Illustrator. You can open these in Adobe Illustrator by double clicking the files. Or, you can right click (control click on a Mac) and choose Open With> Adobe Illustrator CC. If you have any trouble, let me know ASAP!
  • Watch the 4 videos on the page. Open the practice files and follow along to learn more about the Adobe Illustrator workspace. Be sure to take notes!
Afterwards, answer these 10 questions for a grade. Use Google Docs to export your finished answers as a .PDF file. Label your file lastname_firstname_illustrator_workspace and upload it using the form below. This is due by Monday, 4.27.20.
  1. When looking at the Tools Panel, what does it mean if you see an arrow next to the tool icon?
  2. Where can you find the Selection Tool?
  3. What does the Properties Panel allow you to see?
  4. Where can you go in the Menu Bar (at the very top) to see your open panels, or to open a new panel in your workspace?
  5. Name 1 way you can reset your workspace.
  6. What is the keyboard shortcut to Zoom In and Zoom Out? (This is the same as it is in Photoshop)
  7. What does the Hand Tool allow you to do? What is the keyboard shortcut for this tool? (Same as Photoshop)
  8. How do you create a new document in Adobe Illustrator?
  9. How do you save a copy of an open file in Illustrator?
  10. What is a .AI file? Why is it best to save your document in the .AI format while you’re still working on it?

Turn in your Illustrator Workspace questions and answers here.

    Max file size: 20MB

WEEK 2 // 3.30 - 4.3

MONDAY, 3.30.20
Here are this week's assignments:
  • Make sure that you have set up access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Visit creativecloud.adobe.com. Using your TMI Email address, you can download and use the Adobe CC software at home. See below for detailed instructions. You will need to make sure that you have downloaded Bridge, Photoshop, and Illustrator CC. If you have any questions, email me!
  • Go ahead and turn in your digital files for your Mystery project. You should have:
  • 6 final images. Your final images must be processed in Photoshop and saved as PSD files. Your images must pertain to your theme word of MYSTERY, and they must also be cohesive. This means they must be connected in some way, either by content or formal qualities.
  • Label your final images lastname_firstname_p5_final_1, lastname_firstname_p5_final_2, etc. Place them in your Project 5 folder on Google Drive.
  • Make sure to upload these by Friday of this week. Let me know if you have any questions.

We will begin working in Adobe Illustrator next week, so make sure you've downloaded the application on your computer before Monday! Let me know if you have questions.

WEEK 1 // 3.23 - 3.27
