The colors that are being used in the photograph are red, blue, black, brown, green, and white. Red is being used by the flower pot in the background of the photo. Black is being used by the shirt, and the shadow of the building in the background. Blue is being by the short of Alice and the person on the right. Blonde is being used by the color of everybody's hair in the photo. Brown is contributed by the roof of the house. Finally, green is being used by the bush surrounding the house.

There are a lot of things that are being cut off by the edge of the photograph. On the left side of the image, the person’s left side is being cut off. Alice’s remaining legs are also being cut off by the bottom of the image. The house in the background is being cut off by the top, so we can’t see what the rest of the house looks like. Lastly the girl to the right of Alice has her legs being cut off.

This image is interesting, beautiful, and noteworthy. This image can be beautiful because of the main idea of it. It is also cool because it has Alice in it. Alice is the main point of the photograph. This photo is interesting because it is using a lot of color. This photograph is also noteworthy because of the main point and the setting.

I have two different sides of this photo. I like it and dislike it, I like it because of its main idea, and how the photographer chooses to take a picture of Alice. I think that is really kind. Another reason why I think that this photo is decent quality, is because of the story is telling. I dislike the photo because in a way it is kinda dry, but in a way its not. I think that this photo is overall pretty good mainly because of Alice and her importance in the photo, and how it wouldn't be the same without her.

The photographer wants the audience to look at Alice and think how cool that she is being photograph. They also want them to think of what the photographer could do better, as in setting and the story it is telling. The photographer is hoping that the people viewing the image thinks of how the story of the photo circles around Alice. Another thing the photographer wants from the audience is attention to detail of the image. Finally the last thing is that the main idea is Alice.

This is an image of Alice getting a haircut. Some details are she is not very happy about getting a haircut. I also see her two siblings standing next to her. Alice is wearing the only blue in the picture while her siblings are wearing white thus bringing attention to her. The lighting she used is natural light.

This image is pleasing to look at because of the way the other children are posing and then Alice is the one who is crying. This is a 1st person point of view. The focal point is for sure Alice. There is some free space in the top left corner but is mostly filled. And the rule of thirds is not being used in the image.

The theme of this image I think is even when you feel down and sad you have people around you who can and will help you through it. I think the story of this image is the photographer invited her sister or a family friend over and she gave Alice a hair cut outside. And during all of this, her siblings were playing or just talking outside. I think she made this image to show that Alice is like any other kid, who cries and laughs. This reminds me of my family because when I was a little kid my two older brothers were always with me no matter where.

I like this image because it reminds me of my family memories. I also like this image because the theme I came up with makes this image even more meaningful and beautiful. I would say this image is successful because the time it took me to come up with the theme was relatively short. The only reason I wouldn't like this image is that the haircutter's face is cut off.

The photographer wants everyone who sees this image to understand that Alice is just like any other child. I know this because in the article we read that was a recurring statement she had. Another reason I know this is the theme is that like any child we have all cried in different and uncomfortable situations and times. And this was Alice’s uncomfortable moment. And if the viewer takes time to study this image I think they could understand this and accept it.

This image is of four people: A little girl sitting on a chair, another little girl in the background, a little boy to the left of the girl in the chair, and a lady standing next to all of them with a comb and scissors. Most of the people in the picture have expressionless faces, but the little girl in the chair has an irritated look on her face. The girl is wearing jean shorts, and they are stained. The location that the people are in looks fairly overgrown. The lighting is natural, because the subjects are outside under the clouds. In the image, the girl in the chair is getting a haircut, and the other little kids are just watching her.

I think that this image is pleasing to look at. It looks like it has a lot of midtones, and the colors are fairly tame. This photo uses the rule of thirds by having the two sisters be half way in and out of the middle of the photo. This photo uses a shallow depth of field by having only the people in focus, and not anyone in the background. The point of view is child view, because the camera is eye level with children.

The theme of this photo is functionality and togetherness. This is trying to show that people with disabilities can still get by in daily life. It is also trying to show that people will be there for each other, hence the sister trying to comfort her younger sister. This image reminds me of a picture of my little sister’s first haircut. My sister had messy hair, similar to the girl in the chair, she also had bangs, and looked very irritated. I think this image is beautiful, because the artist captured her daughter in the photo in a way that doesn’t convey that she has a disability.

I really like this photo. The photograph is sharp, and the color of the image is very nice. I think that this photo is successful. The artist’s goal was to show that her daughter wasn’t that different from any of us. Her daughter, in the photograph, has no visible difference, so in that remark she is successful.

The artist in this photograph was trying to show that even though her daughter is a little different, and she has to some things differently, we aren’t really that different. She does this by photographing her daughter at their home getting a haircut. She also shows that we aren’t really that different by having her family stand there, like they are also about to receive a haircut. This image allows me to infer that Alice and her family are all very close with one another. I can also imagine that her siblings are more mature than they should be, because they have had to grow up learning how to help her sister.

BLOG #7 | 12/12/19

A piece from Sian Davey's series: Looking For Alice.

This image shows three children and a lady. Alice is sitting on a chair in the middle and is about to get a haircut. There's a small girl to the right (Alice's left) and a small boy to the left (Alice's right). They might be her siblings, but I'm not sure. They're outside in the garden and we can see a part of the house in the background. The image is taken outside so it has a very beautiful natural light. The light isn't too harsh or bright, so I'm assuming that the day was cloudy and that this might be in the middle of the day. The house is a stone-brown color and it has vines coming off it which are bright green. Most of the colors are greens, browns, blues, and a bit of black.

This image is very pleasing to look at. It's centered and doesn't follow the rule of thirds. The main subject of the image is Alice (who is the one getting a haircut), and she is right in the center of the image which is why this doesn't follow the rule of thirds. The photographer took this image as if the audience were sitting in front of Alice. The depth of field is a wide one because we can still see the back. The background is a bit blurry, but it still isn't a very shallow depth of field. There is no extra space because there is the background with a bunch of vines, the kids, the lady, UGH it's all action. The lady is cropped off, though.

The theme is one about Alice getting a haircut. I thought it was kind of odd that they are getting a haircut outside instead of going to get it done because that's what I do. Maybe because she is so young, so she doesn't go to get it done at a salon yet. This just reminds me of all the times as a child that I wouldn't want to do things but was forced to do them. We can see in Alice's face that she doesn't want a haircut. I thought that the fact that Sian was able to capture such a raw expression was cool.

I personally adore all of Sian’s images. The composition is gorgeous and the meaning behind it is so genuine and beautiful. I personally think that having Down syndrome in today’s society is something that hasn’t really been talked about as much as it should. It’s just something that nobody really talks about and gets really uncomfortable with. A really good friend of mine has Down syndrome and I love her so much and have a great time when I’m with her, and I do feel like a lot of people would be hesitant about hang out with her just because of this.

This image was taken by Sian Davey from her body of work titled Looking For Alice. It looks like it was taken outside their house in their backyard. There is a woman who looks likes its gonna cut the little girl who is sittings’ hair. There is a girl who is holding Alice's shoulders (the girl sitting in the chair) and a little guy at the back left. The colors that are shown in the image are green, brown, grey, blue, white, black, blonde, and light skin. Davey used these colors to come to a more friendly and natural vibe. With that said it leads me to the soft lighting that is from the sun and not a studio set-up.

It’s pleasing to look at since the soft lighting and how its a still-life picture of its friendly vibe. Davey took this picture from an eye point of view. The focal point is Alice which is sitting in a chair in the middle with her head looking down to get her haircut. There are some lines that go around the picture but is not as together of alined as for others. There is no blank space in this image since the background building has texture or leaves. The image crops off the rest of the house, the woman who is cutting Alice hair, the guy on the backs body, the rest of the bushes that are on the wall of the house, the pathway that's on the ground, and the peoples' feet.

The theme of this image is love. It’s love because there's a connection between the way that the girl placed her hand on Alice looks like her sister that’s indicating that shes’ got her back and is there with her. The story behind this series is that Davey took a series of photos of Alice that is one of her daughters that was born with down syndrome. She wanted to capture and show how her life is different than others. This picture reminds me of my bond with suly. The image at first questioned my belief if Alice was forced to sit there to have a haircut due to the face she’s making.

Looking at this picture I think that Davey is a person who likes to record those moments in life that seem meaningless but have so much love. Though they seem to be siblings it also looks like they don’t always want to have their picture taken. This image was successful since it attracts the viewer's eye to a warm, cozy, and calm image. I think what Davey wanted the audience to take from this is to appreciate those loved ones that we have in our life because you never know what might they be going through or when you’ll see them again. What stood out the most for me in this image is the love that the sisterhood has.

The image shows four people; one boy and three girls. The one girl in the middle looks like she is getting her haircut. The background looks to be an older house. The photographer Dian Davey uses natural lighting. There are many bright colors in the photo, espesially on the clothes they’re wearing.

I find the image pleasing to look at because of the colors used and the many children in the photo. The photographer took this from an eye looking straight on to the children. I look to the girl in the white dress first and then it leads me down to the other girl, then boy, then the woman. There are a few spots where the subject doesn’t fill the frame like the house’s walls in the background. The photo cuts off the bottom of their legs, the house in the background, and the woman on the left.

The Photographer took this as part of her work called Looking For Alice. It is about one of her daughters named Alice (in the middle of the photo) and her relationship with her family because she has Down Syndrome. This image reminds me of getting ready for a family photo and everyone stressing about looking nice. I makes me wonder why Alice isn’t getting a haircut in a professional business. I think this photo is noteworthy because it shows just the normal life of someone without having to really prepare or pose for the photo.

I like this photo because of the bright colors and the unique situation in the photo. I would never really expect her to photograph her daughter while she was getting a haircut at what looks like their home. I also like Davey’s usage of natural lighting because it looks very nice. I don’t know if the photograph would be successful or not, but I would think it is. Davey is trying to show that she loves and cares for her daughter, even though she might be different from everyone else and she wants us to feel that as well.

The things I question in the photo are, who is the person cutting Alice’s hair? Are the boy and girl children of Davey. Where was the photograph taken at? Some possibilities could be that the person cutting Alice’s hair was hired to come down there, or she is a friend or family member who offered to do it. The children are most likely relatives of Davey if not children. The photographs Davey takes are most likely based in or very close to their home so the background might be outside their home.

This image shows a few girls standing outside, while the one little kid gets a haircut. It is using blue as the main focus color and the green background while the rest is natural. She uses those colors because it’s sort of natural colors. The lighting is also natural and makes the image great. You got all the children, the house, the chair , and the comb.

This image is pleasing to look at because the child on the chair is so cute and it makes me feel joy. The rule of thirds does not seem to be used in the image as the subject is in the center of the frame. The point of view is a third person perspective as it shows us the subject itself. The focal point is the child on the chair because she is the main subject. The edge of the frame shows the house and the other half of the adult is missing, or cropped out.

This image should show some ideas about the girl in the photo. You can also see that the 4 is falling apart which could suggest that maybe they are falling apart. At the moment, i don't see a story in the image. The artist took the image because she loves her daughters and wants to get close with her youngest that has Down syndrome. The image does not challenge any beliefs; it’s just an image of her daughter.

I think the artist, Sian Davey, took a fantastic and successful image. Her daughter is so cute and makes the audience feel joy. She represents that any child who is born with any condition is like everyone else. Just seeing her daughter represents joy in the world. I really like this image so much.

The background has a few color differences in it. There is the bright green and then the bright brown. The background has windows, the door, the number 4, and the wall. The background is not in the focus of the image but can still see it. The background is pretty much the left-out part of the image

In this image taken by Sian Davey is her daughter with down syndrome getting a haircut outside of their house. Her two younger children are standing to the left and right of her daughter that is on the chair. The little girl to the left of the chair is in a white dress that has little flowers on it. Her left arm is hanging down while her right arm is placed on the back of the chair. To the right there is a lady that is cutting the little girls hair in the chair, she's sitting down facing towards the girl, her left hand has a piece of her hair in it between her fingers and in the right hand, there is a thin hairbrush and also a pair of metal scissors. To the very right again is a little boy behind the lady that is cutting the little girl’s hair, he is glaring towards the camera and it also looks like he is holding an air bubble in his mouth.

This image is nice to look at because it is a really cool image, it looks like it was taken right at the right time like she was mid-trim and everything just froze and she was able to take the picture. The rules of thirds are being used, it's not right in the middle of the image, the pov is square because it's not too low not to high it is right in the middle. My eye is drawn to the little girl getting the haircut so I would consider that a line. The image is symmetrical, the subject fills the frame pretty good, it shows a story that is going on well. The image is cropped to were the lady that is cutting the girl’s hair face is not showing.

The theme of the image is trying to show how a young child with down syndrome gets her haircut. Her siblings are standing next to her almost like they’re trying to see what she is doing. This image reminds me a lot of my cousin that lives in Philipahia, she doesn’t have down syndrome but she does have autism and some things are very hard for her to do, and one of those things are getting a haircut, she has always struggled with social issues so when a stranger with sharp scissors came at her head she didn’t really like it. She has gotten much better now that she is older but she still does struggle sometimes. This image is very beautiful, it has such a good story behind it.

I really like this image because of the story behind it, it’s showing how a person with down syndrome gets a hair cut and it also is showing the other 2 siblings that don't have down syndrome by her side, its just overall a very nice image, this photo is successful on telling the story it was trying to capture.

I think the reason why Sian Davey took ll of these photos of her daughter is just to show her everyday life, 90% of pregnancies are terminated of there is a chance that the baby has down syndrome in the UK, due to that there aren’t many people with down syndrome in the UK so this collage shows the everyday life of a young child that has down syndrome.
