Period 5 -- Critical Analysis #6

4 paragraphs minimum, 5 sentences min. per paragraph. Believe it or not, this is a self-portrait.

Some things to consider:
  • What steps the artist had to take to make this photograph happen?
  • What might the perspective that this was taken from suggest about the artist?
  • A self-portrait tells us something about the person being photographed. What do you think this artist wants us to take away from her photograph?

The image is of a person upside down, with their head hanging off of a second story. Below her is a parking lot. It can be assumed that she might be on top of a parking building. Seeing that this is a self portrait impresses me and makes me thing of the immense effort she went through to take this without any assistance.

The photograph shown is in a shallow depth of field. Her face is not shown, but only her neck and jawline is shown. The photo makes this the focal point. For being taken in natural light, the photo seems a little on the blue side.It can be assumed that the image was maybe taken on a rainy day, or when the sun went behind a cloud.

I really enjoy the shadows cast along her jawline that contributes to the overall visual effect of the picture. Since the picture is upside down, it makes you look twice. It adds to the originality of the photographers vision. It forces people to turn their head and look at the image from different angles.

In order to shoot this picture, the photographer had to do a long of things. She would have to put the camera on a tripod and have it face completely down. She would have to somehow focus the camera before hand. The she would have to hang her head in front of the lens without being too close or too far away. She either used a remote or a timer on the camera to shoot the picture herself. She probably wants to convey her free and daring spirit through the message of this photograph. The unique angle might describe the multiple dimensions of her personality.

This image is of a female(Probably 18-20) looking over a parking lot. This image is mainly white and plain colors to real emphasize the exaggeration of the photo. Most of the lighting is very light, using natural lighting. The objects in this photo are, a young girl leaning upside down over a parking lot filled with mostly white cars. In the image, the girl is looking at the city from an upside down point of view.

The image is not underexposed, because the photographer took this photo in the afternoon. The image is focused around the girl's face and neck but not the cars in the parking lot. The color correlation is mainly on point. There is no pixels in the photo, for the image is in focus. This photo's composition makes it a very unpleasing photo to look at. The rule of thirds affect is in full affect, for the girl's head is in the top right of the image.

The point of view on this photo is from a bird's eye view, because you can see everything from above. This photo is not framed. The lines in this photo direct your eyes towards the girl's neck and then makes you look at the parking lot below. The balancing of the photo is not symmetrical for the rule of thirds is all over the place. There is no extra space throughout the photo because of the point of view.

This image reminds me of daydreaming and looking in the sky, but she is looking in the ground. This image is showing us that the author likes to free her mind by leaning over buildings? The image could be more beautiful if there were more complementary colors to make the image pop more. Personally, I don't really like the photo, for it is very dull and makes me sad. But people like dull photos sometimes so this image could please others.

This photograph shows a girl looking over a parking lot from the roof of a building. She is dressed in white but we can't see her face. The only facial feature we see in the girl's face is her jaw and chin. The parking lot looks like the same cars with different color models. The girl's shirt is the brightest part of the image.

The image is a little over exposed. The only object is focus is the girl, the rest is slightly blurry. The color is correct. There is no pixelation in the photo. The resolution is also adequate.

The image isn't particularly pleasing to look at because of the major amount of white in the image. The rule of thirds is being used in the photograph because the girl's chin is in an intersection. The photographer took this image from a birds eye view. The lines of the building coming together direct my eye to the girl's face. There is a lot of extra space in the image.

The image is telling a story of daydreaming like a child. It reminds me of a time when I would day dream and look up at the sky. However, this time the person is looking at the ground. This image in definitely noteworthy because it makes you think back to your childhood. I do not particularly like this image because of the use of color. There is too much white and it is almost too bright to look at. However, i think it will be successful because it ties you back to childhood.

The image is of a girl hanging off a building. The colors are pretty dark besides the girl's white shirt. The objects that are included in the image are of a girl's head and a parking lot below her. The girl is hanging off a building and looking at the parking lot below her. The image looks a little underexposed.

The image is in focus. The colors look correct. There is only pixelation in the background because the cars look grainy. The composition is not pleasing to look at because the girl is pretty high up and her head is hanging off the edge. The rule of this isn't being used because the girl is pretty centered in the middle of the image.

The photographer took the photo from above the girl. A shallow depth of field is being used because the girl is in focus. The focal point of the image is the girl's head. The subject doesn't fill the frame because you can see that the parking lot is extra space that surrounds the girl. The parking lot is at the edge of the image.

The theme of the image is meditation. The story being told is the girl is hanging her head off the building to just clear her thoughts and feel the wind through her hair. The artist made this image to say that people can do different things in order to mediate and relax. The image is interesting because it can be interpreted a lot of ways. I don't really like the image because it kind of scares me how high up she is.

This image is a girl looking at the ground from a building. The girl is wearing a white shirt and is white with black hair. The parking lot is filled with mostly white cars that look as though they are the same model. The colors are mostly black and white and depict a sort of dull look. The lighting is very bright because of the white aspects shown.

The image is perfectly exposed. The girls head is in focus but the parking lot behind her is not in focus. The color is correct. The white and black colors compare enough so that there is no confusion with the colors. There is no pixilation.

This is not a pleading photo to look at because it disorients you brain. Also, the colors do not form any complexity because of the blandness of the colors. The rule of the thirds is being used. The point of is from birds eye view. The depth of field is shallow. The focal point is the girls' head. The lines of the building direct your eye to the girls' head.

The image is showing a love of day dreaming and getting lost within the views of a parking lot and the city around you. The images' purpose is to show how freeing you can get if you take away business and stress to see how beautiful everything can be. This image reminds me of day dreaming at the sky as a young child. I like this photo because the meaning reminds me of what it was like to be a child.

This photo is of Ahn Jun, and it is a self portrait. In this portrait, the photographer is leaning her head out of a window that is above a parking lot. The view is from pretty high up, and you are not able to see the subject's face. All that is visible is the neck and bottom of the jaw, parts of the building, and the parking lot below. The colors in the photo are pretty natural--there are a lot of whites, blacks, grays, and a little bit of blue. The lighting is natural, outdoor light, and no dark shadows are obvious.

This image appears to be perfectly exposed, but because of the colors in the photo, it could appear as a little bit underexposed. The subject of the photo, the woman, is in focus, but the parking lot below is out of focus and blurry. The colors are correct (the whites, which there are many of, are white.) The resolution is only adequate on the subject of the photo and the bits of the building surrounding her. The parking lot is not necessarily pixelated but out of focus. The composition of this photo is pleasing to look at because of how everything is arranged. The rule of thirds is being used because the subject of the photo is slightly to the left of the photo's center. The point of view is from above the woman's face (bird's eye view.) It looks as if the camera is right above her head.

The focal point is the woman leaning back, and the building around her is what's framing her. The lines of the building direct the eyes to her head that is tilted back. The image is asymmetrical, the halves of the picture are not identical. The subject does not fill the image, and the rest of the space is filled up by the building and the parking lot. The building and the parking lot could be considered as the negative space. The edge of the image crops of the remainder of the building and the rest of the parking lot. The frame also crops off the woman's body except for her neck and above.

I believe this photo could represent that the photographer is a daydreamer, and that she enjoys feeling free and not trapped down. The building and her clothes suggest that she could have been at work, and she leaned out of the window to escape from the burden of work. As she is looking at the sky, she is able to set herself free from the stress of work or whatever else could be going on in her life. I believe the artist made this image to portray herself as one that does not like to be uptight, serious, and working all of the time. Although I do not like this image because of the perspective of the camera, I do believe the photographer was successful in reaching her goal of portraying her true self.

The image above is what seems to look like someone hanging off of a building. The girl or guy is above a parking lot in an Asian country because of the yellow writing on the road. The colors being used in the photo are white and yellow. The lighting is neutral and bright on the white. Objects seen in the image are cars and letters in another language. The subject of focus in the image is hanging of a building and seems to be relaxed.
The image seems to be perfectly exposed because the contrast of light is even. The image is in focus, but the parking lot below is a little blurry. The color looks correct and whites don't look yellow. No pixelation is seen in the photo or grain.
The photo is pleasing to look at because I have a lot of questions. The story being told might be displaying a day dreamer or someone who has a free state of mind. The artist probably made this image to display that while the world around you is going on, you can take a break and relax. The image reminds me of relaxation and my friend Hannah's hair. The photo makes me question the persons social stance. Why are they hanging over the building? Why over a parking lot? The image is overall really pleasing and makes me feel relaxed. The photo is definitely noteworthy and makes me feel serenity.
Overall, I like the image and the message it might be conveying. I think the photograph is successful and could be popular.

The photograph taken by Ahn Jun is a self portrait of a girl flinging her head backwards onto a parking lot. She is wearing a white button down shirt and her hair is black and short. Her face doesn't show because of the position of her head. The parking lot is filled with black and white cars and it was daytime

The photograph was properly focused on the girl and the background was also in focus but the girls face and neck was in perfect, sharp, focus. The image is also correctly exposed yet her shirt was a little bit overly exposed. The lighting is from natural daylight. The even color probably indicates that it was gloomy outside. The color was also properly correct.

Ahn Jun's photograph is taken in birds eye view. The camera is propped up above her head and the photograph is taken upside down. The girl is on a high floor in a building and since her head is sticking out and it shows the edge of the balcony she is leaning on. The focal point of the photograph was the girl and she is almost in the center.

This photograph has a deep meaning if you look at it in a sad way. The girl is sticking her head out of the place probably tempted to commit suicide. The emotion on her face doesn't show and which probably indicates that she might be having identification issues and she is having personal inner problems. This photograph might be a way for her to express something she can't express in words. I really like this photograph and I like the the way it was taken.

This photo shows a girl. She is wearing a white shirt. The shirt has a collar on it. She is hanging off of a building. The building is overlooking a parking lot. The girl has brown hair. This photo was taken using the rule of thirds. It is properly exposed. It has a shallow depth of field. The camera is focused on her neck and hair. This photo is showing that the girl is brave. It symbolises that her life is crazy. This photo was not taken in a english speaking country. Because the yellow paint on the driveway in not in english. She is in the city when she took the photo. The photographer's name is Ahn Jun. There are only cars in the parking lot, no trucks or vans. I don't like this photograph. Because It doesn't show the whole picture. You don't know what her face looks like by looking at this photo.

This image is of a girl having her head hanging of the edge of a building. The colors being used are all neutral type colors. The lighting is bright in the image. In the background of cars. She is hanging her head upside down and looking at the parking lot full of cars.

The image is not under-exposed. This image is in focus on one object. The image is being focused of the girl's head upside down; hanging from the building. The colors being used are correct. the whites are white and the blacks are black.

This image is not pleasing to look at. There is nothing interesting to look at. The image is well established but overall the image is not interesting or pleasing to look at. The rules of thirds is not being used. The point of view being used is a birds eye view. The image is balanced.

The negative space of the image is the parking lot in the background. The positive space being used what the image is being focused on; which is the girl. I believe that the story being told in the image is that the girl is looking at the world in a new perspective. We see the world from the ground up right, but how does the world look upside down?

The intension of the artist making this image is for the world to look at the world in a different perspective. To try something new. This image does not remind me of anything. I do in fact want to try what the girl in the image is doing. I would want to try looking at the world in her perspective. No this image is not beautiful. I do not hate this image nor do i like it. This image is just an ok image. the background choice of the artist is not the best. The artist could have done better. With a better background this image could be more interesting to look at. This photograph is semi successful, because the concept is great but there is some parts that the image is struggling.

The artist had to set up some sort of tripod, near an opening in a building, or a roof, and lean over backwards/ lay down beneath it to make the bird's eye point of view possible. She seems to be starring down at a parking lot with mostly black and white cars from a gray-ish concrete building. The artist is wearing a wite shirt, and has her (short?) hair dangling from her head. She is laying chest-up, but her neck is stretched so she can look down.
The image is asymmetrical, and seems to be relying on the rule of thirds. no faces are shown, and has a shallow depth of field, focusing on the subject. The image seems to be exposed perfectly, and the lines on the sides of the building seem to lead your eye to the subject.
The image seems to show how we don't notice where we at, until we look down. We are always told to not look down, to prevent having a sensation of fear, but this picture is proving that it is possible to look down with satisfaction instead of fear. The artist seems to enjoy what she is doing, and is not afraid of heights. She might be trying to show the world that heights aren't always something to be scared of, but something to be awed of. She may feel a sense of freedom by doing things that most people wouldn't do, or would not want her to do. I can relate with this image, because I'm in love with heights. Everyone constantly tells me not to get too close to the edge, but when I get the chance to go as close as I want, with no one telling me not to, I get an amazing sense of freedom, awe, adrenaline, and an overall happy feeling. This girl might feel the same way.I feel like this image is very interesting in its content.
I really like the image, and it is similar to some images I have made as well. It is very successful in making you think why the artist is doing this, and it gives you a sense to the sensation people get from heights. In a way, you feel like you're above that parking lot as well. I really like it.

This photo is of a girl. She is on top of a building. She is looking down on a parking lot. There are several white cars. She is in South Korea.

Her name is Ahn Jun. She is wearing a white shirt. The image is about her waking up on the roof. She is looking down thinking about what happened. I do not quite know the symbolism.

This photo is in a shallow depth of field. The shutter speed does not really matter in this photo. The photo is exposed adequately. The lines direct your eyes onto the woman. There is little to none negative space.

I do not like this photo. It is not very appealing to look at. The grey gloomy look is not appealing to the eyes. I do not think the photographer was successful due to my opinions above. Overall, good shot photo, but I don't like it.

The picture is a self portrait.(Wow!) It seems have been taken with a tripod at a building's window. The artist set her head as if it were hanging from the building itself, and the camera's bird's eye view makes the picture more dramatic. In the picture, you can see a parking lot from above and some other parts of the building itself. The cool colors in the picture make me wonder whether the exposure is trying to express some sort of melancholy feeling. Also there is a sense of mystery because one can't fully see the building or the artist's face. But the cool and sad color/temperature might have been the lighting playing with my eye, or the weather outside because the picture wasn't staged in a studio with professional lightning.

The picture seems to be correctly exposed; it's shadows aren't too dark and light isn't too bright. Because the only object that seems to be a hundred percent in focus is his or her face, I can assume that the picture was taken with a shallow depth of field. The picture has great resolution little pixelation. Also note that whites actually look white.

The picture has a nice composition, and therefore strangely pleasing to look at. Although at first I was weirded out by the artist's head randomly hanging from the building's edge. The more I look at it, the more I come to like and appreciate it. I am naturally attracted to dramatic objects, I guess. I believe the rule of thirds is being used because his or he'd head hangs perfectly from the middle of the picture. I also like the fact that his or her head almost seems to be fames by the surrounding buildings. Those buildings that sort of frame the photographer's head, also see as lines to direct your eye directly to the focus of the picture.

I believe this picture may be a concrete explanation to the photographer's thoughts. One is still stable, on a building, technically with feet on the ground, but one's thoughts may be always hanging over the edge of a building, if you know what I mean. I like the picture, even if I miss interpreted it. The cold scenery also reminds of several places in my childhood. I miss and cherish cool places like that. The image is beautiful because it transmits a different meaning for everyone, and I personally believe that art's purpose in the world is for therapeutical reasons. This picture may help someone.

The photograph is about a girl in Asia or more spesifically South Korea hanging over the side of a multi floor building it could be a hospital, bank, or a business. The lighting of the image appears to be bright sunlight to the point where the girls skin is bright white. The image contains a girl, cars, trash can, building, and a variety of plants.

The image is has a good exposure because you can see the girl and she and the background aren't to bright, but the girl is a slight bit bright. The images is in focus the image is focusing on the girl and she is in the center of the image. The color is correct because it seems to grab the audiences attention. The image has pretty good resolution there is no pixelation.

The point of view of the image is 3rd person view because you can see the girl in the image the rule of thirds is not being used because the girl is in the center of the image. The image is pleasing to look at because it gives you the feeling of anxiety because she is over the building and a sense of tranquility because it looks like she is on top of the world where no one can touch her.

The theme of the image is to have a sense of freedom from the world making you feel untouchable. I do like this image because it makes me feel feel free from the world, and it gives the meaning that when society or technology surrounds us we can always be free even when it's closer than we think. The image in my opinion is successful because it makes you feel calm.

This image is of a young woman hanging over a railing, overlooking a parking lot. The parking lot is filled with cars and has trees surrounding the parking lot. The woman's clothing and herself has white colors, while the parking lot has various-colored cars. Natural lighting is being used in this photograph. The woman's face/jawline is the focus of the photograph.

The image is a little overexposed probably due to too much exposure of the sun on the lens. The whites look white in the photo. There is no pixelation and there is adequate results. The composition is somewhat pleasing to look at because it's an interesting photo, just a little overexposed. The rule of thirds isn't being used in this image because the woman is in the center of the photo.

The photo was taken from a birds-eye perspective. The focal point of this image is of the woman looking down. The subject doesn't fill the frame, therefore, making extra space left. The frame crops off on the railing. The lines are are on the extra building in the background and the parking lot spaces.

The theme in the image is that sometimes you have to look at things in a different perspective in order to recognize the beauty in things. The artist made this image to remind people that not everything is what it seems to be. The image is interesting because the artist took it herself of her in it. I like this photo because I admire the handwork and dedication that the artist had in making this photo. The photograph is successful because the artist made a great photo with her creativity.

The image shows a woman leaving backwards off the edge of a building. The building she is above is surrounded by a parking lot. She is looking downwards at the cars in the parking lot. The colors are neutrals tones an some earthy greens and browns, other than that they are grey, white, and black. The photograph is taken outside under natural lighting .The image is correctly exposed. The woman, who is presumably the object of the photograph, is in focus. The color isn't correct, is has pink/yellow tones to it but the whites do look white. The photograph looks a little grainy, around the tree/bush area.

I don think the photo is pleasing to look at because the woman's head is not in the middle, but is doesn't follow the rule of thirds so it is kinda awkwardly in-between two thirds. The photograph is taken from above the woman. I feel the building corners frame her body more so than the whole photo. The lines are the edges of the building and they direct you to the woman's head. The photograph is pretty symmetrical, the building lines up and so do the cars, the only thing out of place is the woman's head-it is not aligning with anything else in the picture. The subject fills about a fourth of the picture but is surrounded by the ground/parking lot below.

The photograph shows a woman looking down on the ground from up above. Perhaps the woman is looking at the city from this point of view to gain perspective about how one person's problems or concerns are relatively minor to everything else going on in the world. I think that is the idea; that we may think we are so important, influential, etc. and that are problems are such an issue for 'everybody' when really, its just another thing you have to deal with in life, another barrier that you must ultimately face alone because its your problem, not theirs, and on a global scale it really doesn't even exist.

I like the photograph, I like the idea behind it, or at least my interpretation of the photograph. I think it may be kind of confusing for many at first but that's what I like. It invokes thought, many photographs are like that, although some are very straightforward. Though I am all for a thought-invoking photograph, I feel this photograph is a little iffy, mainly because we can't tell what the woman is doing or what is precisely going on. But I guess that is a good thing
