This photograph by Paul Strand depicts two people standing on the sidewalk under a tree. A bridge is casting a shadow onto the street. The photograph appears to be made in the early afternoon. There is not a lot of negative space. I like how the photographer chose to shoot this photo in black and white.
The black and white brings simplicity to the photograph, making it pleasing to look at. The photograph has a high ISO because it appears very grainy. The shutter speed does not seem to be very fast or very slow. The photographer most likely used a tripod and shot the photo from a window in a building. The aperture was around probably not too big since the light is not very apparent due to it being in black and white.
The photograph is hard to interpret. I think that the women is asking the man for directions. The lack of people and activity shows that the area they are is desolate. The bridge casting a shadow shows that there is more in this place than one can see. The reason the people are in shadows is because there is a lot of darkness.
I think the photograph is successful. I enjoy looking at it and find it pleasing. The use of shadow and light provides a good mixture that does not make it seem too dark or light. I am glad that the photographer used film to make this photo. I would like to know more about the history of the photograph. The soft focus makes it pleasing and easy to look at with the eye.

This image is a old kind of photo of two silhouette characters and the shadow of a bridge. It is using a yellowish-grey color due to the technology back in the time this image was taken. It is mostly bright colors along with some black due to shadows. The lighting is bright mostly due to the time of day the image was shot. There are two silhouette characters along a street in this photo. The two characters seem to be interacting together.
The image is not under-exposed nor over-exposed. The image is not in focus of anything particular. The coloration is not correct due to the age of the camera. There is slight pixelation in the street as well as the side of the street. The image personally is not very pleasing to look at.
The rule of thirds is being used, because the two characters are in the top right of the image and the shadow cuts across at an angle. The image was taken from a bird's eye view. The image does not appear to be framed. The shadow of the bridge guides the viewer's eyes towards the two characters in the top right. There is some negative space in the image such as the street is kinda just there, he could have done more.
The theme of this image is maybe a day in his life from bird's eye view. The image reminds me of the intro to a old movie like Scarface. It makes me ask myself, "How did he get the angle?" Due to low technology back in the 1920s. The image is interesting because it makes me believe that there is more images that connect to the image. I think the photographer can make the photos successful by adding different photos to connect the images.

In this Image there are two men. These two men seem to be under a large bridge. They are under the shade the bridge is providing for these men. The men have on hats and dressed very nicely. This image seems to be taken a very long time ago. The photographer took this image by a birds eye view in New York City.

This image is in black and white. The photograph is a little soft and not totally in focused. For that reason is because this image was taking probably in the early 1900's. The photograph shows the outline of the shadows of the bridge on the street. You can tell that this bridge was probably a tall bridge from the shadows.

I believe that the photographer took this image to show that in New York there are many bridges, Also to show that there are many business men out on the streets always meeting each other. I do not think there is a story being told. I think the photographer is just trying to show the everyday life of a New Yorker in the early 1900's. This image reminds me of old movies. It reminds me of old movies because in the early 1900's mean always go dressed to work very nicely and now a days not all men go dressed very nicely anymore.

I think this image is very nice because of the details this image shows. I do like this image. The reason i like this image is because i get reminded of how i imagined how the early 1900's are. This photograph is successful. It is successful because i think that the way the photographer came across to me was really strong. Knowing that this image was made a long time ago i think this photographer did a really good job on picking the angles on where to take the image.

The following photograph taken by Paul Strand shows shadows of some sort of tall figure perhaps a construction site. In the corner however, two men are shown wearing black suits and black hats standing in front of each other as if they're discussing something. The photograph uses simple colors like grey and dark blacks and light blacks. The dark colors is what sets the mood for this photograph which tends to have suspense, mystery, etc. The hats that the men are wearing seem to be covering their identity which really helps sets the mood of mystery and suspense.

The photograph is a little too dark especially in the corner of the photograph which is probably because this image was taken during the daytime yet the men in the corner are shaded and concealed because of the dark shade in the photograph. The photograph isn't very much in focus probably because of the quality of the camera considering the fact that this photograph was taken in the early 1900s.

This photograph is pleasing to look at because of the different lighting used throughout the photograph which makes it just more pleasing to look at. The rules of thirds are being used in this photograph because the lines in the shadows seem to lead the eyes of the viewers to the two people standing in the top right corner. The point of view of this photograph is birds eye view probably taken from another building.

Just by taking a glance, you can easily tell that these two mysterious men are trying to hide something because they're meeting in a place where no one else would be found. The fact that they're also wearing hats that conceal their identity and clothes that aren't bright or colorful gives the suspense that these men don't want to be seen. The way their bodies are also position gives off the idea that they're sharing something top secret or confidential information. I really like this photograph because of the many ideas that come into my head when I first look at it and the many questions like who? what? when? or why? that all pop into my head.

The image above is of two people talking on a street corner in the shadow of a bridge. The photo is black and white and the lighting is overall dark, especially with the shadow of the bridge on the street. There is natural lighting in some areas of the photo, like parts of the street. The two men on the street corner are dressed in what seems to be business attire and are appear to be talking.

The images exposure is darker in the shady areas of the photo and over exposed in certain parts of the street where the bridges shadow doesn't linger. The image isn't really in focus because of the time being when this photo was taken. Advance camera technology wasn't a thing and the cameras weren't good enough to take good quality photos, so the image looks fuzzy and out of focus. The color is correct and the image looks a little pixelated because of the focus the camera was on when the photo was taken.

The photo is pleasing to look at because of how simple it is. Depending on what you think is the subject of focus, whether it be the bridges shadow or the two men talking, rule of thirds is being used. The two men are on the street corner on the top right corner of the photo, so rule of thirds does make sense there. The point of view for this photo is birds eye view because the photo was probably taken from above in a building or even on a bridge. The photo is framed by the lines the bridges shadow cast on the street. The two men are the subject of focus so the lines from the bridges shadow lead your eyes to look at them. The image is balanced and the frame is filled.

I don't think the artist took this photo to convey a theme or idea. The story being told behind the photo is a simple scenario that happens daily. People talking to each other is all the photo really is, but the dramatic shadow of the bridge does add character to the photo. The artist took this image to capture the daily life of someone who lived in New York during the 1900's. The intention of the photographer when he took this photo was maybe even to just capture the bridges shadow. Two people may have just been standing on the street corner talking while the shadow was there. I do like the photo because of how simple it is and because there isn't anything dramatic or questionable about it. I think the photo is successful because it's a simple setting. The photos simpleness is what makes it successful and eye catching.

This image seems to be the shadow of a structure of some sorts. It also has the possibility of being the Eiffel Tower. The image is in black and white which shows that it was taken a long time ago. The photograph contains sunlight as well as dark shadows. There are two figures on the right side of the image talking in the shade.

The image seems to be underexposed because of the darkness of the shadows. I don't think the camera was focused because of the fuzziness of the image. There was no color correcting on the image because it was shot with film. There definetley is pixelation/graininess in the image but that is probably due to the fact that this was shot on an older camera.

Personally, I think the composition of the photo is pleasing to look at because the shadow of the building creates a nice pattern on the ground. The rule of thirds is not being used in the image. The photograph was shot from a birds eye perspective and has a deep depth of field. I'd say the focal point of the image are the two people talking because the lines on the pavement really direct the eyes to look at them. There is no symmetry in the photograph because the subjects are standing to the far right of the image and they don't fill the frame. I think that the frame crops out the rest of the shadow of the building and it also crops out the rest of the street.

I don't think there is a specific theme in the image. The story could be that the two people in the photograph are a couple meeting for the first time.I think that the photographer wanted to capture that special moment that the two people met. The image reminds me of those scenes in movies where two love interests bump into each other for the first time and its all being played in slo motion. I think the image is interesting because it makes you wonder who the people in the image are and why they were meeting up at some random street corner.

This photograph is showcasing the shadows of a bridge onto the street below. Along with the intricate shadows the image also includes two men with hats having a conversation. This photograph looks as if it was taken in the early 20th century due to the brick roads and the style of clothing get even are wearing. The lighting within the photo looks as if it is coming from behind the bridge to show case the shadows. The image is in black and white probably to emphasize the shadows the bridge has.

This image is perfectly exposed, which is impressive considering the sunlight which can cause overexposed areas. The image is in full focus, not focusing on anything specific just taking the whole scene in. The color does look correct. There is no pixilation.

This image is pleasing to look at because of the intricate patterns of the shadow of the bridge. The rule of thirds is being used with the shadow in most connecting points and the men in the top right connecting point. The point of view the photographer takes is above the street or a semi-birds eye view. The image is not framed by anything nor is anything the focal point of the image. The image is asymmetrical because of the unbalanced angle of the photograph. The image crops off the rest of the street and the sidewalk next to the street.

The artist made this image to showcase the beauty of everyday life that we might pass by. He or she wanted to show how we can take ordinary things, that we might take for granted and showcase them as art. This image reminds me of the old movies we see in black and white with brick roads and powerful men in black suits taking on the world. This image is noteworthy because it shows us the beauty in everything. I like this photograph because of the eye-opening message is shares with us.

This image is of two men talking and standing on top of the shadow of what appears to be a bridge. The photo is in black and white, and gives off an older vibe. There are many dark shadows, one of the main focuses of the image being a shadow itself. The photo appears to have been taken in natural light in a shadowy area, and because of these shadows the image appears to be slightly underexposed. In this image, two men in long coats and hats are speaking towards the edge of the frame. The men are standing in what appears to be a normal city block, and they must be below a bridge (judging from the shadow.)

Although no parts of this image are being focused on, it is easy for the eye to focus on each individual part of the image. The photo appears grainy, and the resolution is rather inadequate. This is understandable, due to the assumed time period that this image was taken in. Because this image is in black and white, it cannot be color correct. Despite this, it is clear to tell which parts of the photograph are darker or lighter.

Because of the different lines and shadows in the image, I believe it is pleasing to look at. The rule of thirds is being used; the focal points of the image are not directly in the center. This photo was taken from a bird’s eye view--the photographer had his camera pointed downwards. Although the two men are a clear part of this image, I would say the focal point is the shadow of the bridge, as it’s the first things my eyes noticed. The shadow of the bridge is being framed by the patches of light around it, and all of the lines direct your eyes to the center of the shadow. The rest of the street is cropped off by the frame, and this image is not symmetrical. The subject does not fill the frame, and the empty space is the surrounding street area.

I believe this image may symbolize how much smaller things are than they seem. Those two men were probably only thinking about their conversation, but they probably were not aware that somebody else was seeing the bigger picture. This image may symbolize how humans are just small specks in a huge world. Of course, the photographer could have just seen this scene and liked the mystery of it. I believe the photographer was successful. He was successful in creating a unique composition by using the huge shadow of the bridge, while also capturing a conversation that makes people wonder. I do like this image, mostly due to its older feel and composition.

The Image looks like it takes place in an industrial city in the United states around the 1800s or the early 1900s. The image shows two people on a sidewalk underneath a tower. The colors that this image uses are black, white, light mossy brown, and light gray. I think that the image uses these colors because the photographer wanted to give the image an old look.

The image is a good mix between underexposed and overexposed. Some of the underexposed parts of the image include the men's hats and the gutters next to the sidewalk. The image is focused on the tower's shadow. The colors that the image uses are correct because the black and white resemble the time period of which this photo was taken.

I think the theme behind this image is that humanity is letting technology and industrialization overcome us in a negative way. The image uses a birds eye view because we can see the men from a higher point. I think the image is successful because it uses a nice blend of colors that helps support the theme and when the image was taken.

I think the story behind this image is that two spies that are working for the U.S government are trying to infiltrate the Chicago Mafia, and they are now being watched by someone. This image reminds me of a 1920s spy/Mafia film. I think the image is very interesting because it has a mysterious feeling to it. I think the Photographer created this image to show the secretary that lies in a city.

The image is of the shadow of a building or structure on a street. There are also two people having a conversation under a tree also included on that street. The colors being used in the image are black and white. The image is in black and white because it appears to be an old photograph where black and white was the only option because of how the people on the street are dressed. The people are dressed like a person would dress in the early 1900's. The lighting is dark shadows because of the shadow of the building and the shadow of the tree on the street. The objects included in the image are the shadow of the building and the tree, and the two people on the corner of the sidewalk.

In the image, it looks like the two people on the corner of the sidewalk have stopped to have a conversation while on a walk to some sort of destination. The image looks a little underexposed due to the large amount of frame that the shadow take up. The image is in focus because you can tell that the two figures are indeed people. The color is not correct because the photo is in black and white. For example, the leaves of the tree should be green or brown, but not black. There is pixelation in the image because the image as a whole looks a little grainy. The image is pleasing to look at because it reminds looks like the structure is consuming the two people, but its just a shadow so it obviously can't.

The rule of thirds is being used because the subjects of the image, which are the two people, are not centered in the frame but placed to the right of where the center should be. The photographer took the photo looking down on the people so ultimately he was above them. A deep depth of field is being used. The focal point is the shadow of the the building or structure. It is framed by the street, the two people, and the shadow of the tree. There is extra space around the subject of the people which include the numerous shadows. The frame crops off the rest of the structure shadow, the rest of the tree shadow, and the rest of the sidewalk.

The theme of the image is the idea that not everything is what it seems. It looks like the structure is about to collapse onto the pedestrians but its only a shadow that will remain just towering over them until it moves due to the movement of the sun. The artist made this image to to symbolize the importance of taking a second look at everything and really analyzing a situation before you jump to conclusions. This image kind of reminds me of paris because the structure looks like it could possibly be the eiffel tower. The image is both interesting and beautiful because it can be interpreted in many different ways. I like this image because the shadow of the structure is beautiful and is something I would put on my walls because it looks very vintage.

This is a photograph of a street. There are two people in this photograph. The person on the left looks like a man and the person on the right looks like a woman. They are dressed very formal in suits and fedora hats. This photo has a shadow off a bridge in it that covers the street that gives off that vintage feel.

The photo is in black and white but has a hint of yellowish in it. This photo was probobly taken around 1920. Odds are this was taken in New York because thats where the photographer lived. The two people in the photo look like there doing some sort of exchange judging by the way there standing. It looks like the photographer was taking a picture as evidence for the the police.

The man is hiding a white object in his right hand. It looks like he is either about to give the white object to her or she just gave it to him. The lines lead your eyes throughout the whole image but they all end up leading your eyes to the white object that he's holding. I think that this means the object is something of importance. Its like the whole mystery of this photo involves that white object to solve the mystery.

This photo reminds me of old mystery movies that take place in the early 1900s. This photo gives off sort of a spooky and mysterious vibe. It seems like this photo could have a massive back story behind it. like a murder case or a drug deal that happened long ago and this is the only proof that still exists. For those reasons I like this photo.

The photograph shown is portrays a street view of an unknown scenario. Two men in dark hats and coats stand on the edge of the sidewalk while the shadow of some kind of metal or iron structure is visible in the street. The photograph was probably taken in some lonely side street in 1920's America. The fashion of the men standing can indicate that the portrait is old as well. The street itself is empty except for these two men, indicating an eerie and abandoned aura. The huge shadow of the structure contrasts with the small and insignificant space the the men take up.

If the photograph is old, it was probably taken with some type of early film. The black and whiteness of the photo supports this theory and ties in to the industrial theme in the picture. The photo was taken in a deep depth of field focusing on all the detail. It can be assumed the photograph was taken in around the afternoon since the sun is shining directly upon the building whilst creating the shadow. The image seems to be focused properly as well.

The photographer took this picture from a bird's eye view. The photographer probably wanted to capture the entire scene as a outsider looking in. Perhaps, the photographer wanted to act as some type of supernatural force watching over the events unfolding. The rule of thirds is being used as well since the men are in the far upper right corner and the shadow of the huge structure takes up majority of the picture. The eye go immediately to the shadow and only notices the men after reflecting on the entire photograph.

The photographer possibly wants to make a statement on the increasing reliance on machines and industrialization rapidly taking over America in that time period. The machines and technology are becoming bigger than ourselves and it may get to the point that human race cannot control it. The photograph portrays this message in the huge contrast of the space that the men, representing the human race, take up compared to the shadow of the structure, symbolizing the industry. The shadow almost engulfs the men if it weren't for the tree there were standing under. This indirect message that Strand is trying to emphasize is that the increasing power of the industry may be as subtle as a shadow but still just as evident.

This is a picture of a shadow of a bridge. The shadow is overlooking two women talking. There is a tree above the women and they are standing on a sidewalk. This looks to be a deserted street but looks maintained. The colors are black and white to show the looker of how simple life can be. They are dark shadows of the well-designed bridge and what looks to be a wheel.

The image is underexposed due to the women not being as apparent as the bridge. The image is in focus of the shadow, but not the women or the sidewalk. The image is pleasing to look at because the bridge is filled with different designs and structures. It's not something that you would see in places such as San Antonio. The rule of thirds is being used because the women are in the far right of the picture frame.

The point of view is birds-eye because the photographer is looking down on its subjects. The lines on the bridge are very symmetrical and are very well designed. The shadow of the bridge fills the majority of the frame, but the sidewalk and the women also take up a small portion of the frame. The edge of the frame is filled with grayness, the shadow, and the sidewalk. The image is balanced because you can clearly see everything.

The story of this photograph is that life can be as simple as you make of it. Instead of being on electronics, you an enjoy the beauty of nature and be able to talk to your friend in person instead of a screen. I think that the photographer made this image because life these days is very rushed and phone-reliant. This image reminds me of when I went to New York and saw a lot of creative bridges that were there. This piece of artwork is noteworthy because it gives people a message and advice. I think that this image is successful because it tells a story and a message.

This image shows two men standing on a sidewalk with the shadow of a building or tower on the street. the colors being used here are black and white probably to make to seem more mysterious. The lighting in this image is all natural however, the photograph is still very dark. The darkness of this image seems to match the darkness of the men's clothing. This also highlights the shadow of the building. The two men in this image seem to be talking to each other and are the living beings in the photograph.

This image is perfectly exposed because the lighting in both the dark and light places seem natural. The image is in focus because everything seems clear. The color does not have to be correct because the image is made on black and white film. There is slight pixelation in the image probably due to the camera being used when the photograph was taken. There is adequate resolution.

This image is pleasing to look at because the shadow of the building is very intricate and beautiful. The use of thirds is being used because the men in the image are in the standing in the right hand side of the image. This photograph was taken from the birds eye view probably from a high building, which shows that men in the image didn't know that a photograph was being taken. The focal point of the image is most likely the shadow of the bridge while the men are just a distraction. The most important lines in the image are the lined shadow of the building which leads your eye to the standing men.

I believe that the theme behind this image is light and dark sides of society. Because this image was taken in New York the darkness off to the side represents the part of the city in which more people are gathering, and society has taken over. However, the shadow of the building represents the more beautiful part of the city where the architecture is made by humans to be beautiful and intricate. This picture was ultimately taken to warn society that we can make things that are ugly and awful or beautiful. I love this picture and believe it is successful because it is very mysterious.

The photograph shown contains a shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The shadow has been cast onto the street with part of the side walk showing which features two men; presumably having a conversation. The photograph is taken in black and white which allows for a starker contrast between shadows and light. The shadows are very opaque and less translucent. The photograph is very detailed as you can see even the outline of the bricks in the street below; as the photo is taken from above. The photograph is properly exposed; whites are white and blacks are black. Everything is in focus which explains the amazing detail.

The photographer uses the rule of thirds in a different way. He lets the shadow of the building control the photo's composition, it occupies two thirds of the image. The last third is comprised of a side walk, two men, and a tree. The tower is the primary subject of the photograph and it fills up most of the space. The photograph was taken from above; presumably from the balcony of another building. The lines of the building's structure seems to direct your eyes to the people o the corner of the sidewalk along with the sidewalk it self; all lines in the image seem to point to the two people. So perhaps they are the actual, yet unintentional subjects.

The photograph reminds me of when I went to Paris; unfortunately I didn't get to go to the Eiffel Tower as the weather was not permitting but I plan to return. So this image serves as a reminder and a dream that I will soon return. It reminds me of all the things I did and didn't do. I think the photographer created the image to capture the calm of Paris. In the image we only see two people and the shadow of the tower.

I think this image is very successful. The artist captured the calm of a city that never stops. In the image there are no cars, no throngs of people-only two men. The simplicity of the photograph is beautiful and exerts a calm feeling to those who look at it. It is very relaxing and I like it very much.

Honestly, I can't be sure if what I see is correct. I see what looks like a bridge's shadow cast over a street. In the street, two men seem to be talking, an possibly shaking hands as if they had just made amends. The picture is in black and white. I believe this may be due to the fact that the picture has an old fashion vibe to it. It looks as though the picture was taken some time after the mid twentieth century. What primarily leads me to believe this is not only the discolored nature of the picture, but the men's attire. They are wearing business-like suits, and the typical matching hats with them.

I have the slight suspicion that the picture is overexposed. I think that the shadows in the picture aren't as prominent, because if they were darker we probably wouldn't be able to see the men that are standing underneath them. It is quite obvious that this picture wasn't studio set up, and instead the author used natural sunlight. As much as I'd like to make the argument that the two men in the picture are the subjects of the photograph, it looks more to me that the shadow of the bridge is the main subject. This is because the resolution of the picture isn't the best; the men look slightly blurry in addition to other objects around them, but the shadow of the bridge looks clearer which could be due to the combination of a shallow depth of field and a large aperture for the light.

The picture isn't pleasing or unpleasant to look at. Honestly, I feel indifferent about it. I would find it pleasing to look at if it were symmetrical. Now, even if the shot isn't symmetrical, it still shows use of the rule of thirds. The shadow of the bridge and the sidewalk represented on the picture seem to be perpendicular to the horizontal edges of the frame, dividing it into thirds. This quality also forces my eye to focus not the bridges's shadow first and then leads me to see the men on the upper left corner.

Even if I don't necessarily find the picture pleasing to look at, it doesn't mean that I don't like it. I like it. I believe the picture doesn't represent a certain theme, but rather shows us a part of life as it is. Just a nice sunny day, having a good conversation with a fascinating unexpected stranger or an old buddy of yours. After all, humans are creatures made to socialize. If I were to title this, I'd call it "Don't Question it, this is how the Universe Works",

The image shows a shadow that seems to come from some sort of steel structure, such as the Eiffel Tower, a tall power line, or an industrial bridge. The shadow is being casted over a street and a sidewalk. The sidewalk is completely covered by a shadow, has 2 people having a conversation and has tree that appears at the very edge of the photo. The photo is a very gray type of black and white, which brings out the contrast between the street and the shadows. The photo was taken outside in natural light.
When looking at the street with the shadow, the image seems to be perfectly exposed, but the sidewalk seems very dark (due to the shadow). The entirety of the image seems to have a soft focus. The image was not color corrected due to the fact that it's black and white photo made by film. There are no clear signs of pixelation, but as mentioned before, the image does have a soft focus, so it may take on an effect that makes it look a bit blurry.
The image is pleasing to look at because it does a good job organizing the shadows from the light. The sidewalk is nearly perfectly covered by a shadow that takes travels parallel to the sidewalk, which is really satisfying to my eye. The shadows from the steel beams from the building also take on an industrial, somewhat elegant look that stands out in the light of the street. The shadow from the sidewalk runs diagonally through the 2nd vertical line of thirds of the image, and fills nearly the entire third. The photographer probably shot this image form a building next to this street, shown by the fact that it is a photo shot from bird's eye perspective. The lines created by the structure's shadow make this a more dynamic image, and they guide your eye through the whole image (the shadow starts at the bottom left corner and leads your eye through the image all the way to the people standing on the top right portion of the image). The image is asymmetrical, but it still succeeds on containing an organized structure that is pleasing to the eye (mainly through the use of parallel lines throughout the image). The subject/s fill most of the image when considering how the shadow runs throughout the image to the people. The frame cuts off part of a tree and the rest of the shadow cast by the structure.
The image seems to portray how we've innovated in industry with massive structures relative to us as people. the photographer succeeds in showing how little the humans are compared to the massive shadow created by a massive industrial structure. The artist probably intended to show this relationship between people and buildings. The image reminds me of the time I visited the Eiffel Tower. In comparison to the tower, you become overwhelmed by the size of such human-made structure. The same sensation of my relative size also occurred to me when walking the streets of New York. It is easy to see with structures like these to what heights our society has come to. This made the image very interesting to me (I also really like the use of shadows).
I really like the photograph because it sets a pinpoint in past and allows us to take and step back and reflect how or current society is similar and different. It lets us see how our innovations are beginning to overshadow us. The photograph is successful when considering these terms.
