This is an image by Lissy Elle Laricchia. It’s of a girl who is floating with her arms and legs hanging down. On the girls back there is the sails of a boat. This image was shot on a beach and it is really cloudy and seems to be windy also. This images main colors are blue, white, and green.

This image is pleasing to look at because the colors in the image are really nice and cool. The rule of thirds is being used in this image because she is in the middle of the image. The photographer took this image at eye level looking right at the girl. This image has a pretty deep depth of field because almost everything is in focus. In this image the girl is the focal point there is grass with a walkway to get down to the beach and she is floating right over that walkway.

The lines in this image are also creating by the edge of the grass also on her shirt there are lines. The subject in this image does not fill the space. She is in the center of the image and there are some grass, clouds, sand, and water behind her. At the edge of the image are the things that fill the rest of the image also. You can also tell that the photographer is using compositing to make this image look the way it does.

The idea of this picture is to make the girl look this she is moving with the wind. I don’t think there is necessarily a story being told but she had to find out what she wanted to do with this image. I think that the artist made this image to make you see something that you probably wouldn’t have thought of. I think this is a very nice image because it uses nice colors and she had a good idea to shoot this image.

Overall I like this image. I think it is very creative. You can tell that the artist spent some time coming up with this image and making it happen. I think that the photographer was successful in this image. I think she was successful because she created a very interesting and nice image for people to look at.

This image is of a girl on the seashore that appears to be floating in mid-air while being hoisted up by a ship’s sails. The image is using very cool colors such as gray, green, blue, and yellow to give the image a gloomy yet subtle feeling. The lighting in the image is neither too bright nor too dark, and it works well with the colors. The objects in the image are a girl, socks, shoes, ship sails, a handkerchief, a striped shirt, a black dress, sand, grass, clouds, and the ocean. In this image the girl is being hoisted up into mid air by the sails of a ship, while looking like she may be dead.

This image appears to be a composite, so I believe a studio setup may have been needed for some aspects. I think that in order to get the image of the girl the artist may have had her lie down on a stool. After that I think that the photographer had to get an image of the background on its own. Lastly they must have had access to an image of a ship in order to have the girl being held up by the sails. A tripod was most likely used to keep the frame the same in all pictures and avoid bad compositing.

The composition functions very well and is very pleasing to look at because its colors and lighting are so well balanced and work very well together. The rule of thirds is not being used as the subject is not on a thirds line. The artist most likely took the image of the girl directly across from her. The depth of field being used is semi-shallow because the objects in the background are blurry but not too blurry. The focal point is the girl and she is framed by grass, sand, the sea, and the sky. The lines in the image are all over the place and don’t lead your eyes in any direction. The image is not symmetrical as each side looks different. The subject also leaves tons of extra space in the image. At the edges of the image are earth, sea, and sky and the frame crops off randomly. The positive space is the girl and the negative space is the foreground and background.

The theme of the image is that a girl that does not seem to be conscious is being hoisted into the air by a ship’s sails. I do not believe that there is a story being told in the image since it is hard to decipher things about it. I think the artist’s intention was to demonstrate a feat of man that is impossible, flying. The image reminds me of a vacation I went on last Spring Break where I was on a cruise and at one port the weather was similar to this. The image does not question any beliefs. I think that this image could be called interesting because the girl is hovering over the ground, something that doesn’t happen to us.

Personally, I am rather fond of this image mainly due to its well lit nature. I like how the image seems so calm and peaceful yet so rowdy and busy at the same time because the colors imply bad weather which usually brings peace and rowdiness. I also like how the girl has a lot of contrast from the rest of the image. I think that this image is successful because creating this image with compositing shows dedication and hard work. I also think its success can be traced back to its inhuman nature having the girl hover over the ground.

The picture by Lissy Elle Laricchia is of a girl on the beach, floating above the ground with a boat’s sails. She looks unconscious or asleep, and is thus limp, with her extremities falling towards the ground. The boat sails come out of her back and look very old. The sky is cloudy, and the wind looks hard. Some grass on the dunes takes up some more of the space.

The picture looks a bit overexposed and is very bleak. The grass looks like it is dying, the ocean isn’t a clear blue, and the sky is grey, which just leaves the girl with the bright colors. She has a red handkerchief and a navy striped white shirt with a navy skirt. The depth of field seems to be about in the middle, since not everything is in focus, but the girl and the close grass are in focus. The subject is in the dead center of the photo.

The photo looks like it was shot in the middle of a cloudy day, and only uses natural light. The process of making the photo wasn’t very natural though, since it used compositing. The girl was probably lying on a stool, and the ship was likely in the same scenario, but a bit higher up. Since the grass was probably swaying in the wind and in different positions for each shot, it must have been difficult to combine the base shot with the shot of the girl. When photoshopped together, it looks natural for the most part, but there doesn’t appear to be a shadow, which might also be because of the clouds.

The picture is clearly dreamy, with the over exposure and weird subject. It may be telling the story of the girl’s dream, in which she flies to the beach, but I think that’s pretty obvious. The boat’s sails remind me of a model ship at my grandparent’s old house, and the beach looks like it’s from Corpus Christi. I think the image is noteworthy because it breaks the bonds of reality and shows a creative idea. Still, it doesn’t seem to challenge any beliefs or tell a deep story.

I enjoy the image since it has a bleak color palette that is simplistic and effective at drawing your eye. Additionally, I really like the unrealistic nature of it. The process of creating it seems as though it was difficult, but the end result looks crisp and believable. The photo is successful at what it is trying to do, since it is straightforward and tells a basic story. Overall, the photograph is enjoyable and simple, making it successful and effective.

This picture is of a girl hanging in the air. She is limp. The masts of a small ship are attached to her back holding her in the air. She is on a beach in the middle of some high grass. They sky is grey. The ocean is partly visible from the point of view.

The girl looks like a sailor because she is wearing a blue and white striped shirt and a dark blue or black skirt. She has a handkerchief tied around her neck; it is white and red. She is wearing knee high socks and brown shoes. You cannot see her face because the wind has caused her hair to cover her face. The ship that seems to be attached to her back is made from a photoshop composite.

The picture is pleasing to look at because it is balanced. There is grass on both sides of the girl and behind her, but not below her or directly in front of her. The rule of thirds is being used because the girl is centered in the image. There is a shallow depth of field because only the grass in front of the girl and the girl is on focus, everything else gradually becomes out of focus. The lines of the swaying grass draw your eyes to the girl. There is a lot of extra space in the sky.

Maybe the idea of this image was to show that the girl is trapped and out of control. The girl moves only when the wind pushes the sails and so she literally just goes with the flow. This image reminds me of the times I have gone to Coronado with my best friend’s family. At Coronado there is white sand and this long beachy grass. I actually took a picture with a similar foreground as this image with the grass being on both sides on a sandy hill and a person above.

I like this image because I like the beach and I like the colors in this image. This photo is successful. It is a well composed image. I also want to look at this image for a long time. I can also appreciate the making of this image in photoshop because compositing is very hard and I don't know how this lady did it. She would have had to take multiple pictures and then mash them into one, and move the different elements of the image to where she wanted

Critical Analysis #10

This image is by an artist named Lissy Laricchia. The colors in this image are very bright colors there is a lot of white and light greens. The lighting is bright light because the girl is outside and it’s cloudy. The objects in this image is a girl that is hanging from her back kind of slumped over because she is hanging from the sails that are in her back. She is wearing a navy skirt with a white long sleeved shirt that has navy and white stripes on it. She has white knee high socks on with brown sandals. There are sails that are holding the girl up along with sand, long grass, and the sea in the background.
The composition is pleasing to look at because the image is well balanced. The rule thirds is not being used because the girl is right in the center of the photograph. The photographer took this from an eye level point of view. The photographer took this from a deep depth of field so she could capture the girl and the background around her. The focal point is of the girl.
The lines in this image are from the sails that are holding the girl because the lines direct our eyes to the girl hanging. This image is symmetrical. The subject does not fill the frame you can see the background around her. At the edge of this image there is probably more sand and grass along with the rest of the beach that is shown in the background. The positive space is of the subject the girl and the negative space is of the background. (Grass, sand, sea, etc.)
I think the theme of this image is like a dream because in our dreams we can do whatever we want. This image kinda looks like the girl is flying but in real life we can just get up and fly but in our dreams we can. I think the photographer was trying to show us the aspect of a dream she had or was told by someone and that’s how she got her idea, and i think she did a good job with capturing the idea. This reminds me of the movie Peter Pan a little bit. I think this image is kinda magical because it looks like the girl is flying.
I like this image a lot because it’s interesting to see because i like how the girl is just floating in mid air, hanging by the sails of a boat. The lighting looks really good with the colors on the girl and the background. The photo does a good job of portraying the idea of a dream. The photographer does a really nice job of using Photoshop so it doesn’t look like the image is over photoshopped. I like how the picture reminded me of our midterm project.

The image depicts a girl being suspended mid-air in a position that resembles the dead man’s float. She has, protruding from her back, the masts of a ship. The masts themselves are the center of the image, while she dangles down into the bottom half of the image. The background behind her is a grey sea and a grey sky. In fact, almost all of the colors are some form of black, grey, white, or off white, with the only exceptions being small amounts of the grass around her and the red stripe on her neckerchief.

The focal point of the image is her, and specifically the masts on her back. The rest of the image uses a a relatively deep depth of field with everything being in focus, except for the distant sea. Her legs and arms, as they dangle down to the ground, act like lines for your eyes to follow to her floating body. The grass also serves to do this, as it points upwards from the ground to where she is suspended. The subject fills a relatively small portion of the image, with nearly half being sky, and herself being framed by a couple feet of grass.

This image was made using the compositing of multiple pictures together. She at least had to take an image of the sea, herself jumping, and herself holding the ship. She also likely had to expose for the background, as the background should have been very bright, causing herself to be underexposed in comparison. Because she isn’t underexposed, she most likely had to take an image where she was bright, and the background was incredibly blown out.and herself.

The image seems to be telling a story of a girl who drowned at sea. The facts that she is floating literally and doing the dead man’s float, the fact that the image lacks a lot of colors, and the fact that the setting is in front of the ocean all support my theory. Additionally, the connection to the ships she has is likely due to a boat wreck of some type. Despite this fact, the image is eerily beautiful. Her position, the toned down colors of the image, and the interesting addition of the masts all make the image very calm and serene to look at.

I personally think the image is very successful. It captures and holds the viewers attention with it’s magical like subject, and produces a sense of calm despite that. I personally really like the image due to its serene qualities. Another factor was how the photographer choose to not fill the frame with just their subject, which greatly contributed to how well the image flowed as a whole. lastly, I admire the dedication it took to probably take all of those photos, as I can’t possibly imagine how many times she had to take the photograph, as her friend had to jump in order to find the perfect photo where her body was in a perfect position, and close enough to the ship to make the compositing possible.

The main point of this photo is of a girl. You can’t see her face, but by her body she looks to be ranging from a young girl to a teenager. She is wearing a high waisted navy or black skater or denim skirt that has a tight waist and has buttons going down the front of it and she also has on a white and navy striped shirt where the white stripes are thicker and the navy stripes are thinner. She has has a scarf on that is worn in the spring or summer and is a cream color with faint red dots and a bright red border. On her feet she is wearing knee high white socks and brown sandals. She has a very pale complexion judging by her legs and hands as well as almost strawberry blonde mixed with a light caramel color for her hair.

She also look like she has the sails part of a ship attacked to her back and they sails are why she is floating upward. She doesn’t look like she is standing on the ground at all and looks like she is hanging in mid air the way her body is positioned. The ship itself looks like it has three sail rods. You can’t see the base part of the ship where the ropes on the sails are attached to, all that is there is the sails. They look like they have wind blowing in them so they aren’t flat but not enough to move the anywhere.

The whole image seems to be in focus up until the point where is pass behind the little girl. The objects are severely out of focus closer to her but the farther away it is the more out of focus it becomes. Behind her is the ocean that has waves crashing on the shore. The girl looks to be on a path that is made of sand going down to the beach. Around the path is wild grass that is the kind that only grows out in the middle of nowhere or on the beach.
The colors of the image have a very dull feel. The sky in the image is a gray blue as well as the ocean. The grass, which is normally a yellow green color, is a dull brown green with a sandy color on top.

Everything except the little girl has a very washed out feeling to it. It looks as if all the warm tones have been taken out of the picture except for the ones with the little girl. The dark color of her skirt really pops as well as the color of her hair. The red in the scarf however is what stands out the most because it is such a bright and vibrant warm tone. The light source looks to be natural light but it looks like it is coming from everywhere because of the hazy sky. There aren’t any harsh light beams in the photo at all. However the photo still has a very light and soft feel to it. There aren’t any shadows being made anywhere. The angle of the image is taken right in front of the girl.

The main theme of this image is mystery and magic and almost old fashioned. The only dark colors are coming from the root of the grass and the dark colors in the little girls outfit. Every other color in the image is a light color. The is a mystery behind the image and it makes you do a double take which is why I think the artist made it. The red and navy really pop off the image and grab you attention. The ship on her back also makes you look twice at the image. I like this image because it has a very calming feel to it as well as a little mystery. It reminds me of something that would be hanging up in a beach themed bathroom. I don’t know if I would hang in image in my house because I don’t know where I could put it. I do however really like the image and the vibes it has to it.

The image is of a girl who is at the beach. The girl has sails on her back and appears to be floating. The girl also has a piece of cloth on her back and appears dead like. The girl is wearing a white and blue striped shirt and a black skirt. She is surrounded by tall grass and the picture was taken in a cloudy day, possibly in the morning. The rule of thirds in not being used in the image nor any kind of bug’s eye or bird’s eye view. The photo uses a shallow depth of field and the focal point of the image is the girl. The image doesn’t crop off any extra space and the cloudy sky is the negative space of the image. The leading lines of the image would be the tall grass and the sail lines pointing toward the girl. The image is symmetrical and the subject fills half of the frame. The picture was probably made by masking it in photoshop. First the photographer took an image of the beach without the girl, then took a picture of the boat, Finally the picture of the girl was taken, could’ve used an object or rope to get the height. The photographer combines the images then makes it look like she was floating and had a sail on her back. The girl had sails on her back to make it look like she’s sailing in the air. The picture reminds me of the Peter Pan movies where there was a floating ship sailing in the air. I like the image because I think the lighting of the image looks neat. I also liked that it reminded me of Peter Pan and also because I have an idea of how the image was made. I like the image but i wouldn’t hang it on my wall. The photo was successful because it pulled off the floating effect without looking obviously fake. The photo was also successful for focusing my attention to the girl floating.

This picture takes place in a beach with some grass spread out and the ocean is visible. There is a girl that has ship coming out of her back and is floating. The colors that are being used are a dull green, sandy color, blue for the sky and the sea , lighter blue for the sky and darker blue for the ocean. I think the picture is using these colors to get the whole beach vibe which are soft colors. There is natural light here because of the sun and there are many clouds and the clouds with the light of the sun create a soft light which adds to the vibe of the picture.
There is a girl in this image with black and white stripped shirt. She also has a black skirt. She appears to be on top of one of the beach dunes. There top of the dune appears to be very grassy and she is floating up and has a ship coming out of her back. The girl seems to appear limp and is getting pulled up by a ship. The photo is really pleasing to look at because of how the colors go well together and how the subject is aligned. The subject is in the middle with a scarf hanging out of her neck and pops out because it has a red outline. The grass is all the same soft color and goes well with the picture because the grass surrounds the subject. The sky is also one color so it helps with keeping your eyes on the subject. The photographer took this photo as he was looking right out at her.
There is a shallow depth of field being used here to get a clearer image of the subject which is very close to the photographer. The lines in this picture are the ends of the grass leading up to the girl which aligns your eyes to the picture nicely. The image is very balanced and symmetrical. The photo is aligned correctly and straight. The subject does not fill the space, There is extra space. The image crops out some of the grass and ocean. The positive space is the girl and the negative space is the grass, beach and ocean.
I think some of the themes and ideas are letting go and how free and relieved you feel to the point where u start floating, the ship is a metaphor for this letting go feeling like you're sailing away from stress, the ship is there to add to the beach vibe. I think the story is that this girl has had a terrible past, her family fight a lot but then she also had a boyfriend and that boyfriend made her feel stressed out and stuff. So she finally broke up with him and feels relieved and free so free that she starts flying. I think the artist intention was to make a calm soothing picture. This reminds me of the book, old man and the sea.
This can question something ethical as in sometimes you have to think about yourself and not get so caught up in others. Those others can stress you and sometimes it's best to just have times to yourself so you can let go and be free and figuratively let go. I think this is pretty beautiful. I like this photo because it makes me think and gives me a calming cool feeling and vibe. This photograph is successful because the message it tries to portray which is many. The photograph is successful because it gives off a nice feeling and is very well made.

This picture is of a girl that looks like it's floating and being pulled up by a ship on her back. This picture was taken in the beach, the background is the ocean and the girl is in the middle of plants. The sky is full of clouds, and there isn't any waves being made in the ocean. The colors that are being used are light, there is a lot of white in this image because the sky, the ocean and the clothes the girl is wearing. There is a very good lighting on this picture, the only dark areas are in the plants that are around the girl. The girl is wearing a black skirt, a white striped lines shirt, high-knee socks and what looks like sandals.

The main object is in the center of the image and it's just being surrounded by other small objects. The rule of third is being used, the main object is on the three middle squares. The photographer took this picture on a standing point of view, but in a verizontal angle. The focal point is the girl and the ship, she is being framed by the plants and the sky. I think this image is asymmetrical, all the space in the image is not being filled out. The edge of the image are the plants, the sky and the ocean. The picture is cropping off the rest of the plants and the ocean. I think there is only positive space in this image, because the image is bright and there isn't a lot of shadows or dark areas. This image is using composition, I think they did this by taking a picture of the ship when someone was holding it high. And the girl was laying on a chair looking down.

It's a very interesting image when thinking what the intention if the image is. I think the theme or idea in this image is about feeling empty, light or calm enough that a ship can lift you up. This image reminds me of the feeling of loneliness. It can be that the girl is feeling lonely and sad.It also reminds me of pirates movies.

I really like this image because the lighting and for there not to be any a lot of dark areas. I also like it because how it looks like the ship is lifting up the girl from her back. I like how the composition that the main object is in the center and its being surrounded by just small objects.
I Also like that this picture was taken in a beach because the ship that is lifting the girl up. I think this photograph is successful.

This image by Lissy Elle Laricchia is about a girl in the center suspended in the air. She is wearing a navy blue skirt with a white shirt with navy blue horizontal stripes, on her neck she is wearing a kerchief, on her legs long white socks with brown shoes. As already said she seems to be suspended on the air with her head (you cannot see her face), arms and legs going to the floor. In her back there are ship sails that all seem to be part of the same boat, they look as if they were part of the girl’s body which added to her being suspended gives the illusion of her being driven by the sails. The picture was taken in a beach location, on the top part all we see (apart from the sails and the girl) is the clear sky. Then in the lower middle of the picture we have the seashore, and then at the bottom we have the sand and a few plants around.

The composition is very pleasing to look at because it is well arranged. The rule of thirds is not being used because the girl is in the center. This image has an eye-point of view, it was taken from the same angle and height from which the girl is being suspended. A shallow depth of field is being used because only the gil and a few of the plants that are forward are in focus. The composition was well balanced wince there isn’t any extra space to be filled anywhere, and also there isn’t too much in on part of the image.

Everything in this image makes reference to the sea. Looking at it, it makes me think of the sailors’ families and the kids that they leave for a long time whenever to go out to sail or months. If you think about it, this image could be representing how sailors are someway obligated to sail (could be for money) and this making them missing out on their families, especially those who have little kids. This feeling that I get from this image is probably because of how the sails seem to be pushing or moving the girl, and how she is kind of asleep. Regardless of this sad part of the image, it is still a beautifully composed and well thought image.

As already said, this image is indeed beautiful. Lissy Elle’s image is very successful since it catches the viewer’s eye. It doesn’t only catch the viewer’s eye, but also gets them thinking what this might represent. I also like it because it is one of those few images that calm you down and give you a little bit of serenity. It is worthy to mention that the calm colors attribute a lot to this feeling.

But how did she accomplish this image? Compositing. As we learnt in class, whenever you plan on using compositing you don’t change your camera settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, atc.). Looking at this image I imagine that she used as a base an image without the girl or the ship sail. Then she probably had the girl laying her stomach on something so that neither her legs nor the arms would look like she was putting force on them. After that she probably took a picture of somebody holding the sails at the same height that we see it at. And finally compose it all together with the composition technique.
