Complete in class. 4 paragraphs minimum, 5 sentences minimum per paragraph.

Some things to consider:

  • This photograph is a composite—i.e., it is made up of more than one image.
  • How is Uelsmann (the photographer) using compositing to influence the overall mood and feeling of the image?
  • How do you think this image was created?

This is a beautiful composite image. It is in black and white, and the image is multiple images composited together. It is a mountain landscape, with what seems like a falling rock coming from the sky, which is water in this case, into the floor, which also is water. The composition of the image is good, and it is correctly exposed. The whites look white, and the colors are balanced.

The form of this image is very interesting. The action occurs right down the middle of the image, so the rule of thirds is not used. The mountains act as leading lines in the photo, drawing the viewers eyes towards the large stone. This image is also a composite. It is a surreal image that is made up of more than one photo. This is done to give the image added and more interesting effect.

This image conveys an interesting story, which is helped along by the composition. The main theme of this image, is the power of the little things in nature. This idea is helped along by the use of the composite. In the photo, the rock that is falling is very large. This is to illustrate the importance of the smaller things in nature. Things such as smaller animals, rocks, and grass. These things are essential to natural ecosystem, and if they are disturbed they can mess it up. This notion is illustrated by the out of proportion rock falling out of the sky.

I think that this is an excellent image. It conveys an interesting message to me personally as well. Furthermore, I like the mountainous backdrop, and I think it is very pretty. The composition allows for more complex themes to be understood. All in all, this is an excellent and very thought provoking.

This photograph depicts a massive chunk of a mountain floating above a valley. The sky is also mirroring the lake, leaving a ripple. The image is using grayscale. The lighting is very dark which leaves a lot of shadows. The valley is cut in half, with one side being a forest-covered mountain side and the other being a rocky cliff side.

This image is purposely underexposed to create shadows. The image is in focus around the lake ripple. The whites are emphasized to show difference from the also heavily emphasized black colors. The image has adequate resolution. This is due to the shadows.

This image is pleasing to look at. The point of view is from a person standing on the beach. The focal point is the bottom part of the floating boulder. The lines, which are the lake ripples and the mountain valley sides. The image crops off at the sky and the mountain sides.

The theme of this image is dream. The image is something surreal or unreal. This image reminds me of the pictures that I would draw as a kid. It also makes me question our world and makes my mind wander into a whole other territory. This image is beautiful because of the wonder aspect that it possesses.

This stunning image shows a reflective sky that reflect the mountainsides lake. Then there is a chunk of the mountain in the sky. The composition of this image is stunningly great. The landscape is taken from a birds eye view. This image may show that the sky is falling from where we are.

This image is taken in a deep depth of field. This image shows many shadows because it is underexposed on purpose. The whites in this photograph are purposely the opposite of the blacks, as if the world is not what we think it is.This image has a very high resolution because of the whites and the shadows.

The lines of this image are the mountains sides, and the lake ripples. This image is pleasing to look at because it makes the reader come up with many ways to interpret the image. This image crops off the mountain and part of the sky.

This image that is surreal, shows how eye boggling this is. The theme can be mystery. This image reminds me of the dreams i had when i was a kid. This image makes me want to explore the world, and find its hidden mystery. I really think this image was a success, because it can be interpreted in many ways.

This is a really beautiful photo. It's a black and white photo. The photo is mainly about a big rock in the air. There are mountains in the back of the image. However, one has some trees on it, the other one has some snow on it. A river is floating under the rock. We can see that the sky is also water.

If we take a sudden look, we could think that the rock is flying in the sky. However, because the sky is actually water and there's wave on it, we can argue that the rock is actually falling from the water sky into the river. Although the rule of third is not used, the picture can give me a coordinated feeling. The photo doesn't have one thing particularly in focused. We also needs to look at the water to understand the image.

The image isn't a real scene. It was created by the photographer. The photographer uses the collage tool to make different images together. He can shoot a image of the big rock, mountains and rivers first. Then he could put them together to create this imaginary place in the photo.

The photo looks really good. It can show you the beauty of the nature. It was made differently with other pictures that I've seen. It show me the beauty of the nature. I like the image.

This image is very eye catching. I am honesty awestruck by the almost mirror like world that is this image. Being black and white, you focus on the content of the image. It is actually a little difficult to tell which side is up. But, the confusion is what is so captivating about this image.
The way the rock or mountain piece is suspended in mid air is the first thing that catches your eye. This is because is directly in the middle of the image. This being said the photographer is not using the rule of thirds. The thing about centering something in an image is that it kind of takes away from the rest of the image. The background does add context though.
This is a surreal image. I am going to guess that it took about fifteen or so layers to make. I think that the floating thing is a part of the mountain to the right. The photographer probably use some kind of copy and rearrangement of the layers. But that doesn't explain the ripples in the water.
The ripples convey that maybe the object came out of the sky or the water or whatever you would like to call it. The reflection in the water only allows for the mind to wander more after you notice it. The amount of untold content is surprising for one image. It makes you look at if for a long period of time which is not a bad thing. All and all this a very captivating image.

This image is of a giant boulder floating in the sky. It caused ripples in the water below it and in the sky above it which is mirroring the lake. It is in only black and white. The lighting is natural light. In the image there is a lake, a boulder, a sky looking like a lake, and mountains on both sides of the rock.

The image looks correctly exposed. It is in focus except for some of the background trees. The colors seem to be correct but other than white and black it is hard to tell because it is in black and white. There is no pixelation. The resolution looks to be adequate.

The image is pleasing to look at because of the sky looking like the lake. The rule of thirds is being used because the rock is in the middle and the mountains are on the sides. The point of view is from in front of and below the rock. The rock is the focal point of the picture. The lines of the picture are the two mountains and they point towards the lake and the rock.

The theme of the image is to stop becoming so attached to the minor things in life. The rock represents something that doesn't go according to plan and causes the ripples or turns our world upside down. That is why there are ripples and the sky looks like the lake. I like this picture because it makes me want to retreat into nature where I can get away from the minute things that cause me to worry. I think this photo is successful because it challenges others to take a step away from society and our busy lives and appreciate nature and its simplicity and the big picture.

This is a very beautiful image. This image is of beautiful mountains and the water is in front of the mountains. The colors that are being used are black and white. I really like this image it is very calming to look at. The photographer took a separate picture of a rock and made the sky be a reflection of the water.

This is a very high quality image. This image is very pleasing to look at. I love how the photographer placed the rock on the sky it is so creative. I really like this image it reminds me of Alaska it is so cool. This is a very well done image and i really like it.

This image draws your attention to the rock at the top of the image. There is extra space in this image. The extra space is the sky and the one mountain that is behind the other mountains. The frame crops off the mountains. I think it would of been better if the photographer did not cut off the mountain.

I wish there was more with the photo. I really like the image though but if there was more going on I would of liked it better. I think there is a story being told in this image. This image is very interesting and really cool. I really like it. I just wish the photographer had more going on in the photo. So you could ponder it more.

This image consists of floating stone in a middle of the picture. The background is of a beautiful landscape of wooded hills and la large river in the center of the frame. The black and white picture is a composite of the ripples in the river. The sky is the duplicate of the ripples in the water. However instead of having the reflection of the trees in the composite of the sky, it is in a diffused grey hue.

Uelsmann used the composite in a way to make the image more bizarre and interesting to look at. It creates a captivating illusion and it draws your eyes to the rock making it the main focus. I think that this picture was created in several steps. Firstly, he shot an image of this beautiful scenery of he lake, mountain and woods. Then he probably would of have scanned the image and scanned a picture of a rock and placed it in the center. Finally, Uelsmann uploaded it on a computer and composited the ripples on photoshop.

The point of view is probably if you were standing in the by the river looking up at the landscape. The photographer used the rule of thirds to completely show the beauty of all of the land. We get a better idea of what environment is like. The subject, which is the boulder, doesn’t completely fill up the page. It is actually takes not a lot of space in the image. However, since it is placed in the middle of the composite, it draws attention to the rock.
It is such an insignificant subject but the photographer makes it somehow beautiful.

Even though it is a pleasing picture to look at, it does not depict any sign of a story or theme. I believe the photographer wanted to use placement and composites to surprise and do the unexpected. I think the beauty of the image is that the boulder is not a boring or ugly subject like people may imagine. However the landscape does remind me of happy memories of hiking around the forests of Alaska when I was eight. I guess that makes this image more likable.

The image is of a boulder falling into a lake between mountains but the sky has ripples in it like the water. It is unclear whether the boulder is falling or floating and the image is black and white. It is black and white and it is probably to make the photoshop compositing easier. It is using natural light. The mountain on the left is trees and the one on the right in snow.

The image is perfectly exposed. It is in focus. The color is correct. The blacks look black and whites, white. There isn't pixelation.

The composition makes it pleasing because of the soft colors and not much contrast. The rule of thirds is being used in my opinion because in each third there is either the boulder or a mountain. The point of view is from the ground at the edge of water. The depth of field is very deep. The focal point is the rock and it is framed by the mountains and the sky and lake. The lines are all the sides of the mountains and the direct your eye to the tip of the rock. The image is symmetrical. The only extra space is the section of sky behind and next to the falling rock. The tips of the mountains are cropped off and so is the edge of the water. The positive space is the rock and the ripples and mountain sides. The blank sky is negative space.

There is a theme of surreal-ness in the photo because it is not natural and probably wasn't a studio set up. I thought there might be and story of the rock being the tip of one of the mountains. If you look, mountain tips aren't shaped like that because that rock is upside down, so it must be falling. The image is interesting to me because it looks like the sky and sea are the same, so the tip of the mountain isn't reaching for the sky, it's falling for it. I like it because in my mind I believe it is a word play for the mountain being in love with the sky. I don't know if that was the photographer intent but I think it was successful.

This image is of a floating rock, in the middle of the sky and a lake, the sky is made out of water, and the lake is formed as if the rock has already fallen on it. This image is using the grayscale black and white to make it seem more classy, and unique. In this image there are mountains around the rock/boulder. This image is neither underexposed or overexposed and set to the right aperture. Yes this image is in focus, specifically on the rock and a bit on the water.

This image is adequate and has no pixilation. And yes, I find the image pleasing because of the amount of skill put into the image. No the rule of thirds aren't in use, the image is focused on the rock located in the middle. The subject fills the frame, the point of view for this image though seems to be as if it was a bugs eye view more than a bird's eye. In the edges/ crops of the image crop off the rest of the mountain (s) .

A theme I find in this image has to do with something about creative imagination, and how wonderful it can be. This image also reminds me of when I went snowboarding at heavenly (lake Tahoe), when you looked down the mountain after being a few lifts up, you saw this amazing view of the whole lake and the rest of the snowy mountains, lake was super blue and clear, you could see the reflection of the other mountains, it was amazing.

The author could have created this image to send the message of imagination and the greatness to it. I find this image very noteworthy and overall pretty. Due to the fact of the indirect messages which it can mean to certain people. So, yes, I like this image. And, find the photograph to be successful, due to the amazing edit done and creativity put into the photograph.
