Period 3 -- Critical Analysis #6

4 paragraphs minimum, 5 sentences min. per paragraph. Believe it or not, this is a self-portrait.

Some things to consider:
  • What steps the artist had to take to make this photograph happen?
  • What does the perspective that this was taken from suggest about the artist?
  • A self-portrait tells us something about the person being photographed. What do you think this artist wants us to take away from her photograph?

This is an image of a women hanging off the edge of a building. This image has bright vibrant colors that show off the colors of the building. The lighting is bright since she is on top of a building and the sun is out. The photographer either had to sneak onto the roof to take this photo, or she had to ask permission to access the roof. The perspective may suggest that the artist is shy of showing her face so she is only showing her legs.

The exposure is not underexposed. All of the colors appear to pop out and are bright and vibrant. The image is of adequate resolution since it does not look stretched or warped at all. There is no pixelation in this image. This means that the photographer must have used a low ISO to take this image.

The buildings kind of frame there photographer. They make you shift your attention to the legs that are being shown and the two buildings to the left and right somewhat point at her. This picture is taken from a birds eye view since everything looks so small compared to the main person in the image. The subject does not fill the space completely since there is a little extra space around the bottom of the picture. This image is not really symmetrical since there is not a lot of symmetry going on.

I think the theme here is how height makes one feel powerful. The lady is on top of the building and she looks down on everything and that makes a sense of power set in her. I like this image a lot since it is very unique. It is hard to get yourself to hang over an edge of a building like that. The colors also pop out and are very appealing to me

This is an image of a woman sitting on the edge of a building looking down. She is on top of a very high building. All you can see is the legs of the woman, and she is in the middle of a very big city. The composition of the image is good. It is correctly exposed, and the whites are white. The form of this image is also very good.

The form of this image is very good. The rule of thirds is not used, but the subject is not centered in the image regardless. The lines in the image lead the eyes of the onlooker to the legs of the person and the long drop below. The artist had to take many steps for this picture and it must have been a very hard picture to make. There must have been a spot above the artist that is needed to take this. The colors in this image are very bland, except for the bright dress of the woman which draws our attention to the woman. This image conveys interesting themes and an interesting message about the photographer.

The photographer is trying to convey a message about herself in this image. There are two key areas to understanding this self portrait. First, we must understand the location of the shot and the angle at which it was taken. This shot is taken at the top of a very tall building. All of the colors under the building are bland, and the woman is in a bright dress. This implies that the woman is different from everyone else. To further this point, she is on top of a very high building, overlooking the city. This may imply that she is not only different but maybe even superior. Next, the angle that it is taken from show how she is above everything else in the city. It almost makes the building look like it is the throne of the "queen" of the city.

This is a very good image. I think that it is very beautiful, and it conveys an interesting image. I like the themes that are being conveyed. Furthermore, this is an image that can have many different themes which makes it interesting. All in all, this is a very good image that is very impressive especially because of how difficult it must have been to take the picture.

A lady sitting on the edge of a building. It is using bright colors. There is natural lighting. There are a lot buildings. She is taking a self portrait.

The image is a little overexposed. Everything in the image is in focus. The color is correct. The is no pixelation. It has adequate resolution.

It is not pleasing to look at. The rule of thirds is being used. It is a birds eye point of view. It is not being framed. The building direct my eyes down.
The image is symmetrical. The subject does not fill the space. The frame cuts the buildings off. The image gets me very nervous. The artist might show how brave she is.

This image is of a lady sitting on the top of a building with her legs hanging off of the side. She is in the middle of the city and is surrounded by other tall buildings. The lighting is natural light and it is in the middle of the day so there aren't any shadows. Her face is not visible in the picture. She is holding the camera over the edge of the building so you can see the ground.

The image looks correctly exposed. It is also in focus. The colors look correct. The buildings seem to be a bit gray but that could be the actual color of them. There is no pixelation and int looks like it has a correct resolution.

The picture is pleasing to look at because of its element of danger. The rule of thirds does not seem to be in use. The point of view is from above the girl in the picture and she took the photo herself. The focal point is either the girl's legs or the bottom of the buildings. The lines of the picture point to the bottom of the buildings.

The obvious theme of this picture is about possibly suicidal thoughts. However, there is an underlying theme about needing to escape from society into nature. This girl has become caught up in her fast paced everyday life and it seems to not be working out for her. She is showing through this picture how she wants to leave society, with all its competing skyscrapers representing people competing to have the most successful life and be the most wealthy. I like this picture and think it is successful because it makes me want to take time away from the constant motion of society and retreat into nature where life is more simple and moves slower.

This photo is very cool and beautiful. It i using a lot of different colors. All the different colors in the city and it is very cool to look at. It is bright sunlight. She is sitting on a very high building and she is taking a lot of risks taking this photo.
I would say it is just right. Yes the image is in focus it is focusing on her legs. The photo is very good quality. The photographer took the photo looking down on herself and the city. Her legs do not fill the image all of the building on the right and left of her are negative spaces.
The positive space in this photo is the photographer. I think there is a story being told maybe it is referring to suicidal thoughts of wanted to jump off a building. It could also be wanted to just let go and let all your worries go away. This image reminds me of a movie where a person jumps out of the building and is able to survive falling because a superhero saves her.
I really like this image. This image could be a very sad image or carefree where the sad part of it could be jumping off a building because they are suicidal. The carefree part of it could be, just letting go of one's worries and just falling and being free. Taking away ones worries.
I think the photograph is successful because she achieved what she was going for. It is a very interesting and risky photo to have taken. She could have died. Since she did not you know how dedicated she is to her work. I really like this photo and I think other people who see it will too.

This portrait took a lot of time. You would have to probably talk to the owners of the building to make sure that it is okay to be on the roof, or you would have to sneak on top of the roof. The photographer must have used a camera attached to a pole because it is from a high point of view and faces down over a city. The photo is of a girl sitting on a building in a dress overlooking a city. This was most likely taken in the morning because the lighting is dull.
The image is overexposed. Everything in the image is in focus. The colors are correct and there is no pixelation. This image is pleasing to look at because there are so many things happening in the image. Every time you look at the image you see something new. The rule of thirds is being used because the girl is in the top third of the image.
The photo was taken from a bird’s eye view. The focal point is the woman in the picture. She is framed by the building she is sitting on. The lines in the image direct your eye downward. The lines lead to the spot where she would land if she were to fall.
The subject doesn’t fill the frame. When a subject doesn’t fill the frame, it is usually overpowered by the extra space, but in this image, the woman is still clearly the focal point. You can tell she is the focal point because she is wearing a bright color. There is a story being told in the image. Maybe this woman left a party at night and snuck op on top of a building and has been there all night. I wonder how long she has been sitting there. Maybe she is contemplating life and what she plans to do next.

This is a daring image. The artist had to take great lengths to capture this picture. Firstly she would have to find a location. This urban setting looks like it is the bad side of time. She would have to walk around this dangerous area to find a suitable angle and place to shoot.

Secondly, when she found this edge, she had to take safety precautions. The position she was in was extremely dangerous. This could of possibly resulted in a fatal accident. I have a lot of respect for the photographer. This took a lot of courage to complete.

I think the artist wanted us to look at the city in a different angle. The upside down birds eye view lets us see the environment in a alternate perspective. It appears that this was shot on a foggy day, The exposure is correct and it is shot in a deep depth of field

The photographer wanted to show us that she is a adventurous risk-taking person. Maybe she grew up in this urban neighborhood. She wanted to be identified with this poor neighborhood and embrace it. The artist wanted to show the beauty in this non conventional environment.

This photograph shows a lot of messages to the audience. This artist took a lot of steps to take this photo. The steps the photographer took, was to climb a building and put a tripod to take a birds eyed view photo. This photo shows the message of suicidal thoughts. This photo is very confusing too.
This photo is confusing because the focal point of this photo is the middle of the center of buildings, which makes you look at it in many different angles. The girl might be having suicidal thoughts. The perspective of this photo might show that she put herself in a place that makes her emotions very exciting, even though her emotions are suicidal. The photo is taken in a deep depth of field because we can see everything in focus. The subject does fill the frame , and there is no extra space.
The photographer is trying to show that she is free, and brave. But she probably doesn't want people to think that she is suicidal, and wants to jump off the building. The themes of this image can say that you should be free, and not enclosed. There could be a story to this image. The story can be like a story about being free. An it could also be about being free spirited.
This photograph is a success and is very well done. I like this photo a lot because of the message. This can show that society classifies this as being very odd, and weird. But she's trying to prove them wrong, by doing what is different. This photo is very cool and artistic.

This photo depicts a woman sitting on the side of a tall building. She is pointing her camera down so the picture captures how high up she is. The picture captures her waist down and all the buildings that are below her. Her dress is a violet color which sticks out from the rest of the color scheme. For some reason, she is not wearing shoes.

This image is a bit overexposed. The lighting is obviously natural lighting. The whites in the image look a bit over emphasized due to the overexposure. The cars on the ground seem a bit pixelated. This image does not have adequate resolution for the background objects.

This image is pleasing to look at. This is due to the POV, which is pointing downwards. The focal point would most likely be the rivet that is at the corner of the building. The are a combination of the girl’s legs and the sides of the nearby buildings. The lines direct your eye to the street below the building. The image crops off at the other sides of the buildings.

I believe that this image is trying to show an old and crumby town with one girl that is different. All of the buildings below have the same color scheme, while the girl’s dress is different and brightly colored. I also believe that this was the artist’s intentions. This image reminds me of the people who climb building for fun. I believe that this image is beautiful due to the story that it tells.

In this image the photographer is using a deep depth of field. In the image there are many buildings surrounding her. This image seems to be using a sort of fluorescent grading, and a lot of white image correction. The lighting in this image would include a sort of cloudy image, plus the color correction. In this image the photographer is having deep thoughts and is depressed of her situation.

This photo is neither underexposed or overexposed, and because of the images deep depth of field, a lot of what is being shown is in focus. Yes this image is using color correction, which makes whites look whiter, and her skin alot more pale. No, there is no pixelation in this image.

This image is composed pretty clearly, and is pretty pleasing because of all the architecture around her. No there is no rule of thirds being used, her feet are centered and in focus. The photographer ment to take this image in first person, because it shows her angle and how she is seeing things. This image fits the frame because its message is pretty clear, and if you were to continue the image, you would see more buildings and more of the landscape.

The artist meant to make this image to express her emotions, and her way of seeing the world. She doesn't have the fear of falling and must find the view amusing. This image is quite amusing, and reminds me of myself and a few friends, because this seems like something we would attempt. Yes, I like this picture, and I do find this photo successful because of its meaning and its landscape.

The picture is a self portrait. The photographer is sitting on the roof of a tall building. The camera is looking at the opposite side of the photographer. We can see it's really high up in the sky. We can also know lots of information from the photo.

There are many work and preparation to do in order to take this photo. First, the photographer needs to find a really high building so that it can give us a feeling of falling down. Also, the building needs to be in a really old city with lots of old and short buildings around it. It can create a atmosphere of a stressful life. The camera need to be facing the photographer and then turn downward. So in can give us a second person view.

The image is shot at a bird's eye of view. We can know that the height is really high. We can also know that the city is old and disordered. I think that the photo is trying to tell us that the life is so stressful. However, the photographer is at the top of the city. This means the photographer is really successful and is at a high status.

However, because she is high up, if she fall down, she could hurt badly or die. The image is trying to tell us that the higher you get, the more risk you have. And if you are a little careless and fall, you can hurt really bad. I like this image because it has a really deep meaning.

The photo is of a girl in a purple dress sitting on the edge of a building. She is holding on and has her legs dangling off. The lighting is bright natural lighting. You are able to see cars and smaller buildings below. There are no faces shown in the picture.
The image is perfectly exposed. The girl's legs are in focus but the background is still in focus due to the deep depth of field. The whites are whites and not off colored. There is no pixelation.
The photo is pleasing to look at because there is a lot of things in the city. The rule of thirds is being used, the girl is on the top third of the image. The point of view is someone else looking at the fall the girl would take. The focal point is of the girl’s lap. The image is pretty symmetrical beaue the edges of the building meet up in the center.
The artist had to climb up the stairs to the top and sit on the edge of the building. The perspective represents what she sees when she looks down. The artist wants to portray she is brave. She isn't afraid of sitting on the edge of a building.

This image is making me uncomfortable. I am kind of afraid of heights and she is very high up. I mean its like thirty or so stories up and I don't even like a second story. Because both of her legs are just hanging off the edge there I feel like she has a crazy personality.
The entire photograph is centered around a single point. This point is just below the corner of the building she was sitting on. All the buildings are angled to aim at this center point. It makes this image look really open. Plus its very vibrant.
The colors in the image are very light and nice. It seems like the sun is behind the clouds. It looks like this because Thought the colors are light they seem dimmed. There is a wide variety of colors that light up the picture and makes it look like there is more to it.
The dress that the photographer is wearing makes her stick out like a sore thumb. This definitely does take away from the over all picture. But, this is meant to do that. After all It is a self portrait. She is a very skilled artist that is way braver than I am.

This is a photo of the bottom half of a girl sitting on a ledge. This photo must have been hard to take because you would have to put the camera on a stick that was attached to a tripod behind her. She is wearing s purple dress and her skin is very white. It looks like she is not clinging very hard to the corner of the building.
The image looks very edited because of the lighting and vibrance of the colors. The image is in focus. The lighting is all natural because she is outside. The colors look like they were changed by a contrast layer. There is really good resolution.
It is pleasing to look at because it is a really good view. The rule of thirds is not being used. The point of view is from above the person. The focal point is the person and she is surrounded by city. The buildings are the lines and they direct your eyes to the ground. The picture is not symmetrical. There is very little extra space. The top of the person and some of the buildings are cropped off. The person and ground is positive space and the rest is negative.
In this image there is the idea of being at a higher point. This image is very interesting. This image is beautiful because of the somber tone of the dress. This image sparks many ideas like the similarness of a cityscape.
