Period 1-- Practice Critical Analysis

8/29/2016

Each week, we will write a critical analysis on a work of photographic art. An image will be published weekly on our class blog. Spend time studying the image and then write a detailed analysis of the photograph. Publish your analysis as a comment to the blog post; this comment should show the student’s name, time posted, and word count. The analysis must be posted to the original blog post in order to be graded.

Students will write eleven critical analyses per semester, and the lowest grade per semester will be dropped.

This is a test.

The image is of a person looking into a car. The picture is in black and white. The man is the center of attention, and the background is blurred. The photographer took the photo at a lower angle, which makes the subject appear taller than the person taking the picture. Additionally, the frame of the car is in the top of the photo.

The frame of the car could symbolize how the person in the car is trapped in some way, and the person subject appearing larger than the photographer could also symbolize how the person is an aggressor in some way. The subject is also emphasized even more by the blurred background, which makes him the center of the image.

Overall, I think the image is alright. It's kind of interesting, and looks decent. There isn't much going on so it makes the observer think, which makes the image successful.

This picture looks like a man leaning into a car window asking if he can get a ride somewhere. This picture is taken in black and white. The black and white aspect of this picture makes it look more sinister as if the man was planning something. You can only see the top right corner of the car and it seems as though you are looking at the man through the drivers point of view. The picture is focused on the sinister man trying to make him the main object of the picture. I do like this picture because it makes you guess what is going to happen next and makes you question what the man is doing.
The picture is taken in a shallow depth of field. It has the proper lighting and as I said above is black and white. It crops out part of the man's head and instead has the car as if to say that it too is an important part of the picture. The man's body is bent over and leads from his waist up to his head and then to the car. This has adequate pixelation. This is a nicely made picture.

the picture is taken in black and white which gives the viewer a more gloomy or sinister look. the man standing in the window has a shady looking mustache and could be a possible criminal. the POV of the image is from a car and the viewer can infer that he is stoping for help or being robbed. the photo has a shallow depth of field and is little blown out.
I personally like the photo because of the depth of field and the black and white color.i think the photographer is successful because most of the elements come together to create a beautiful photo the creates questions.

The image above is in black and white. With a shallow depth of field, this image mainly shows a person outside of a vehicle looking downward. The picture shows a darker image, but is correctly exposed. The images focuses on the object or person up close. And the background is blurred.

This image from my perspective has a real negative feel to it. The cause of that is the black and white. This image has an upward look to it. The photographer probably took the photo at a downward angel looking upward.

This picture is taken from the POV of a person in a car. The car window is down as an intimidating man in a jacket stares inside at the camera. His face has almost an angry look. The picture was taken with a shallow depth of field as the background of trees is blurry. The man seems o be centered as the eyes will normally focus on him first thing. The photograph was most likely taken with a direct exposure, meaning not too light but not too dark.
The man does not give off a very comforting vibe. He, as a matter of fact, appears to be rather aggressive or standoffish. Judging just based on visual appearance. I would say that this man is either seeking revenge, or something else that's not good.

In this photo we see a man bending down and looking at the camera. He is wearing a light jacket with a crooked smile and there are some blurred out trees in the background. Everything is looking through a car window. It is in black and white and using natural lighting. I think he does this to make it seem like the guy leads a hard life.
The photo has no problems with settings and he was able to blur out the background. It is pleasing to look at because there are no clashing colors and it is interesting because the guy has an interesting expression. Also, it is a really basic photo wit no frame around the edges. I really like it because it reminds me of the Northeastern countryside just before it has started to snow.

This photo is a picture of a man, looking to be in his 40s, either looking into a car, or checking on someone in that car. The photo is taken in black and white and is evenly exposed. The focus is a shallow depth of field, and the photo left some empty space blank to enhance a suspenseful style. The frame also contributes to the suspenseful style being a 4x3.
Personally, this photo has a lot of question in it, is the man helping, or threatening the person in the car. I can also picture a lot of controversy behind this photo. I do not have any recommendations as for improvement, but overall this photo is quite interesting.

This image is of a man looking through a drivers' seat window. The dead trees in the background and the layers of clothing the man is wearing suggests that it is cold. The natural lighting is just right, not over or under exposed. It has a shallow depth of field but the man is in focus. It has a wider aperture. The photographer is at an angle which suggests that the man is coming up to the car to talk and the point of view is through the driver. The focal point is the man. The horizontal lines of the man's jacket and the lines of the window direct you eye. Its asymmetrical but the subject fills the space. The negative space is mostly the jacket. The story is probably a side of the road encounter. I believe the intention was an everyday interaction or maybe a more serious one. The image is appealing but not particularly noteworthy.

The man in the photo is leaning over and talking to the man or woman in the vehicle.I believe he is a officer of some sort. The color that is being used is black and white. I believe this photo is in black and white to make the photo more serous. If the photo was in color it would just seam like a friendly photo, but seance its in black and white theses colors make the photo more serous.

The objects in the photo are the man, jacket, car frame, and faded trees in the back ground. The photo is not very bright, so it may have been a cloudy day. The image is in focus but has a shallow depth of field. There are really not any whites in the photo, so no whites really stand out. No there is not any pixelation.

The black and white photo above is about a man looking into what looks like a car. The background is foggy and there are trees in the background. This photo is correctly exposed and the man is the main focus. The man is tall so has to bend down to look at what he's looking at. He is wearing a heavy jacket which probably means the whether is cold. The man has short hair and a mustache and looks very focused by the way his eyebrows are positioned. In the picture there aren't many shadows or any bright sunlight shown into the picture. In the image it looks like the man speaking to someone but since he has to bend down to talk to them and it looks theres a window it makes me thinks that he's talking to someone/looking in a car.

I think the image is perfectly exposed. most of the image is in focus except for the background. There is no color correct. There is adequate resolution to the picture. The artist made this image to maybe keep the focus on the man the whole time, This image reminds me of a cold day because of the clothing the man is wearing. I don't love the photograph but I don't hate it but I do think the photograph is successful because of the time and effort the artist put into it

this photo was taken of a man looking inside the front window of a car. this photo has a shallow depth of field. in the background it appears there in the woods somewhere. the man looks serious or maybe possibly concerned. the shutter speed was probably fast because he man looks frozen in time. the color filter is black and white.

This image is taken in black and white and is of a man who appears to be leaning into the window of a car door. The man in the image appears to be in his late 30's to early 40's and is wearing a jacket which could suggest it is the winter or fall. The man in the photo is in focus while the background is blurry and out of focus. There appears to be only natural lighting in the photo and the light is hitting the left side of the right side of the mans face.
The man in the photo could be approaching a car to ask for a ride or something else as there appears to be a car frame in which the camera is taking from behind. The black and white could be used to suggest an older or darker feeling. The photo has no real significance as it does not have enough other features besides the man to have a narrower field of view when speculating on it. The photo does not appeal to me as there isn't enough for me to develop a reason or story behind the image.
