Period 1 -- Critical Analysis #1

This picture was taken with a fast shutter speed and in black and white. in the picture there is a boy holding a firecracker. it looks like the boy is standing in the backyard of his or a friends house. the boy and the firecracker are the main focus. the background is blurred.
The aperture used in this picture is a smaller number so the aperture can get a shallow depth of field. the boy is standing outside sometime during the day. he is standing in the middle of a grassy yard. he is wearing dark shorts.
It appears that the family or just the son was celebrating something. either an event or a holiday. the boy appears to be having fun with the fire cracker. in the background you can make out a fence, another house, and a tree. in the grass you can make out something that looks like trash or leaves.

this picture is a picture of a child holding either a magical wand or a sparkler. the photo is in black and white colors, which gives the photo a suspenseful look.
the picture is very underexposed to the background and the child. the sparkler looks very balanced as for the exposure which gives attention the the firework. the photo was probably taken with a wider aperture like F5 or F4, which gives the photo the shallow depth of field. this photo was also taken with a slightly faster shutter speed, which allows the viewers to see the sparks from the sparkler as if they were frozen in mid air.
I really like this photo because the child is placed perfectly in the middle of the photo, and the exposure brings a lot of attention to the firework. the only problem with this photo is the exposure is too dark for the background, which makes the scene look like it was taken in the evening. overall, this photo looks to be very pleasing, and the mixtures of feelings going on during this photo make me feel very controversial. Great photo!

This image is of a boy, probably 6 or 7, holding on to a sparkler in the middle of a front or backyard. It's in black and white with dark shadows with a picket fence and a shirtless boy. The child is looking at the sparkler but its a bit hard to tell because the smoke from the sparkler cuts in front of his face. I believe its a bit underexposed with the vignette and the sparkler is in focus, the boy a bit less focused and the shallow depth of field means the background is pretty blurry. The photographer was using the point of view of which somebody would be looking at him, an older/taller person. The focal point is the boy and his sparkler framed by the negative vignette and the boy with most of the positive space. There is extra room because the boy doesn't fill up the frame. The theme of the photograph is innocence and childhood. It reminds me of my Fourth of July memories from my childhood. It is very pleasing to look at so i do like this image because of its contrast. I think the photographer was very successful.

The image is of a child playing with what seems to be a firework of some sort. Smoke from the said firework covers the boys face. The boy stands in a backyard as well. The image is in black and white and contains a high amount of shadows. The image is darker and doesn’t seem to use any studio lighting, thus making the image naturally lit.
The image is a tad bit darker, meaning it could be underexposed; however, the darkness isn’t too drastic. Additionally, the image is also out of focus. The flame from the sparkler is the only thing in focus. Everything in the background, including the boy, is blurred out. The color seems to be correct as well, nothing is out of the ordinary. Lastly, the image contains correct resolution. Overall, there is nothing too crazy about the picture.
The photographer took this picture at the same height of the child. This would ordinarily draw the viewers eye’s to the child; however, in this image, the viewers attention is drawn to the sparkler. The image is semi-balanced, for the child stands in the middle of the screen, yet the sparkler offsets the balance because the boy is holding the sparkler out to his side. The smoke from the sparkler also impedes the balance of the photograph, for it drifts off the the side of the image.
The photographer potentially is telling a story about a holiday of some sort with the image. Seeing as the boy is standing in a backyard with a sparkler, the viewer can infer that the image could be about the Fourth of July or something related to that. The black and white aspect of the image throws the story behind the image into question though. Black and white images generally give off a serious or somber vibe in my opinion. This makes me wonder why the author would want to add that to the image.
Overall, I generally enjoy the image. It has some interesting aspects to it, such as the sparkler and the black and white effect. I think the photo is ,in fact, successful as it makes the viewer ponder what the point of it is.

This is a picture of a kid with a sparkler. The kid is shirtless with the sparkler and you can see a fence in the background. The smoke covers his face so you can't quite make out his expression. This photo seems to try and represent the American view of the 4th of July weekend as the sparkler and the iconic picket fence both represent America. Even though you can not see his face the little boy seems to be having fun because he is not only not wearing a shirt but he also isn't wearing shoes.

This black and white photo is focused on the sparkler and the boys far while getting dark the farther away. The smoke that covers the boys face seems to attract my eye when if first see it as well as the brightness from the sparkler. This picture also seems to have good pixelation as you can see the smoke and all its features. The picture doesn't however fill the page. When you look down at the bottom two corners it seems to be black and the background is very normal keeping the persons eyes not on the background but the little boy and his sparkler.

I do like this photo because i feel as though its showing us something we all notice as the American Dream but the black and white put a gloomy feel on it. The smoke covers up the boys face and hiding his expression as if in America we try and cover up what is really happening. The smoke is a wall between what is happening and what we can interpret to be happening. I feel as though this picture is successful because it not only makes you eyes go directly to the character but it draws you in. It makes you wonder what is happening and the rest of the story that we can not see.

the image is describing a little boy holding a sparkler in a backyard. the picture also has smoke coming from the sparkler obscuring the boy's face. the photo is taken or appears in black and white to give the viewer the idea of an older image. the photo was taken outside with natural sunlight with little to no shadows. the kid id holding a sparkler on the backyard of house that has a picket fence.

the image appears to be properly exposed. the little boy and the sparkler are in focus with the background out of focus so this image was shot with a low f stop. the photo has no pixelation and no motion blur so it was probably then with a low ISO and a fast shutter speed.

the image is very pleasant to look at with it's use of lighting and color. the photographer uses the rule of thirds in this photo do draw our eyes to the boy in the middle. the photographer does this by having brighter middle and a bright light in the fist third of the image. He took the photo from the point of view of a person looking at the boy and he tries to focus the image on the boy and the sparkler by making the boarder of the image look under exposed. the focal lines of the image draw the viewers attention the the sparkler. the sparkler does not fill the image complete but the boy draws the viewers attention and takes up the remains space.

i think this photo is showing the viewer their younger self. by obscuring the kids face the viewer can put his or her self into the image and remember when they were young and just had fun with sparklers and being outside. the image reminds me of a photo you would see in your memory book of when you were younger and it makes me feel happy to think about it. the image is not trying to make any political statement but it is just made to make people remember and be happy. the photo is nitrating but it is not unique since everyone has had these moments in there youth but it does show the viewer and different perspective on their youth and what it was like.

This shows a young child that looks around the age 5 holding a sparkler kind of toy in his backyard. The sparkler is emitting a lot of smoke over the boys face which makes his appearance look ghostly. The colors that are used are black and white which adds to the scene even more. The lighting is pretty dark and there's a bit of dark shadows. The objects that are shown in this picture is the boy and him holding a sparkler of some sort.

The pictures seems to be properly exposed and the boy handling the sparkler seems to be in focus and the color of this scene is black and white. And there seems to be not much pixelation just a little bit in the background of the boy.

This pictures is very pleasing to look at and somehow it shows the unnatural part of us in a way making the boy seem ghostly. The point of view is straightforward with the boy standing directly in the middle. The subject doesn’t fully fit the frame but the background adds to his theme. The frame crops off the rest of his backyard and his house. I would say the theme of this is supernatural and/or ghostly seeing as the boy looks oddly ghostly. This photograph reminds me of a scary movie I used to love about a boy who was born as a ghost but no one knew and he could turn into it when he wanted to.

This photograph interests me in a good way and I like the way it looks. I would add that this photograph is noteworthy and/or is popular seeing as the perfection of it.

The image is of a little shirtless boy playing with a sparkler. In the picture you can see the little sparks of fire coming off the sparkler. You can also see the fog coming off of it and blurring up the boys face so you are unable to actually depict what he looks like. The colors in this picture aren't shown because the picture is black and white, but you can still see the shadows in the pictures through the lighting. I would assume that not only is the picture black and white but it was probably taken at night because the way the sparkler lights up the night is breathtaking! In the background you an see a fence which probably belong stop the boys house and its blurred up because the main focus is this young boy...yet saying that you cannot see the details of his face very well through the fog.

The image I feel is just a little bit underexposed making the scene darker. The image is in focus but not on the background. In my opinion the color is also correct. The image is composed as just a young boy having fun with a little bit of fire. The picture for me is pleasing to look at because seeing the boy happy makes me happy. This photograph was taken at an angle where he is leveled with the boy right in front of him. The lines are shown in the fence where your face is directly drawn to it but because the main focus is on the boy you can barely see it. The subject does not fill the entire frame, and you can see what is directly behind it.

The themes that are in the image are fun, happy, and mysterious. I think there is a story being told but not everyone will see that story and will just thinks a boy. The artists intention was to make a cool picture and its main focus was the little boy. This does not remind me of anything from my past. This picture does not challenge or question any of my beliefs or intentions. This Image to me is mysterious and I ask myself why is he there alone. My evaluation is I liked the picture a lot because I think its cute. I think that the photo is not that successful because a lot of people see just a boy and nothing else.

The image displays a young boy holding a burning stick. In the background it displays a fence and a structure behind it. This image has a hallow depth of field. The image was taken in black and white. This image also displays dark shadows. But the center point or the focus of the photo is to the boy and what action he is making.

The image is underexposed, and probably taken with a higher shutter speed. To me, the image captures a young boy imaging more than just whats in his hand. But, it captures the boy using his imagination to turn a simple sparkler, into anything imaginable. This image was probably taken at a little higher point, looking downward. The image is telling you that the child is the main focus, but it also wants you to observe what environmental surroundings the child is in.

There is no lines directing you to the photo, but the first thing that is noticed is the light source in the kids hand. For me that is the first thing I noticed in the image. This is not just an image there is a story being told. It takes me back to childhood years where you imagine anything and to it was possible. He is using something simple and turning it into something great just with his imagination. To me, this person took a good photo with a story to be told.

This is an of a boy with a sparkler, so this may be set in the month of July for the Fourth of July. The colors being used are black and white. I think the photo is in black and white so the photo dose not look crowded. The photo is using dark shadows it is not Sudio set ad it dose not have much sun light exposer. There is a young boy holding sparkler and he's in swim trunks standing in the grass with a fence in the back ground.

The image is a little underexposed, but in this photo it looks good. The image is not in focused.Yes the whites in this photo are actually white with a tiny tint go gray in some. Yes there is pixilation. No the photo dose not have adequate resolution, because the photo is not focused and there is movement.

I do like the photo. I think is a cute photo and it reminds me of when me and my friend would run around the the woods behind my naborhood during New years Eve and The Fourth of July.I think the photo is successful. It reminds me of someone I loved doing ad still do.

The image displays a young boy with no shirt on holding a sparkler. The image is black and white and the foreground is in focus while the background is not. The photo could be using black and white give off a somber feeling to affect the light of the sparkler. The photo has a blurry effect in almost all aspects of the photo. The smoke from the sparkler is blocking the child's face which is hiding his identity.
The image seems to be underexposed as there are very dark shadows in the corners of the image. The image takes in full effect of the background by not having the boy fill the full frame while still being centered and in focus. The focal point leads the light emerging from the sparkler in the boys hand which leads to a trail of smoke engulfing the boy. The image does provide a enjoyable experience by not having too much to blur to the point where you can no longer see what is happening while still giving you a hazy feeling that helps to depict the smoke. This hazy feeling helps to represent a perplexing boy and draw you in to the image.
The image could be illustrating a boy who is not sure of himself or does not know who he is as a person yet. The light then portraying him just following others or what is attractive instead of finding himself. It is possibly not noteworthy in any way, but it is quite engaging to look at and draws the attention towards the importance of the image well. The image successfully depicts the blurry yet still somewhat in focus image I think the photographer was aiming for. Universally, I enjoyed the image as it used the shallow depth of field and camera blur well to create a captivating image.

This picture simply shows a shirtless boy standing in a backyard with a sparkler in his hand. The little boy has no expression as you are not able to see his face due to the smoke from the small firework. This pictre reminds me of childhood as a whole. It brings me back to those Fourth of July neighborhood barbeques that someone on the block would annually host. It reminds me of lighting up the sparklers and running around as we wrote words in the air with them.
The picture is in black and white and has a darker tone meaning it is most likely a little bit under exposed. What is kind of mind boggling to me is the depth of field. The picture seems to be focused on the flare coming from the sparklers lit end and the smoke coming from that flare. Everything from the flare down, seems out of focus. his brings all the attention to the flare's light. Much like a childs attention drawn to the sparkler.
This picture has a wide aperture for sure as the picture has a shallow depth of field. But what i'm not sure about it the shutter speed. One can clearly see the sparks and smoke as if the picture were shot with a high shutter speed. But the rest of the photograph is rather blurry like in a low shutter speed. I also noticed the slight vignette hat the picture has around the edges and corners.

The image above depicts a young boy playing with a sparkler. We also see the smoke from the sparkler and the background is blurred (a larger aperture). the image is in all black and white and i think this is because it provides a good contrast with the smoke to the background. Otherwise it would be hard to see. It is using natural light and it appears to be darker (lots of shadow except on the subject). There is only the younger, shirtless and shoeless, boy with a wooden fence in the background.

The image appears to be correctly exposed because, even though it is a little dark, the subject is correctly lit. The sparkler and smoke are in focus and the boy is too, though he seems a little blurry from motion. the coloring also looks correct, with the skin color being correctly slightly off white and the sparkler being bright white. Lastly, the photo has a high resolution and looks clear. I don't know that that says much, though, because if you're a professional photographer your camera should be adequate for a computer.

The image is pleasing to look at with the sparkler and smoke being interesting subjects and and the background being nicely blurred. The sparkler and smoke along with the fence definitely follow the rule of thirds but the boy does't really appear to because he is straight up and down in the middle of the image. The photographer took the image at about the boy's head hight. The focal point of the image is the bright light of the sparkler with a vignette around the edges. The line of the fence meets with the smoke and the sparkler meaning a lot of the image is in a small area. The image is slightly asymmetrical with the sparkler being to the left. There is some extra space on the sides around the boy. The positive space is in the the center of the image and the negative on the sides.

It simply seems to be about a boy playing, perhaps at some family party. There isn't much of a story but the photographer could have been showing a kid of hers or a friend's kid. It reminds me of being at my grandparent's house on the fourth of July. it doesn't really challenge any beliefs but the smoke and sparkler are beutiful. I like the image because it seems very care free and it is successful because she got the subject clearly and in focus.
