2nd Period Critical Analysis No.8

3/21/2022

Third Quarter Reflection

Today you will be writing about your own work that you have made in this class.

Take some time to think about the different projects you have completed during the third quarter. You will pick one project that you responded to, and one project that you did not respond to. Then, you will write about your experience. Be sure to include this information in your writing:
  • Which project did you respond to most? Explain why. For example, if you enjoyed the self-portrait project most, explain which parts of the project resonated with you. Did this project change your way of thinking? Did it help you become a better artist? Did you learn a new skill completing this project?
  • Which project did you least enjoy or respond to? Explain why. What did you find challenging about this project?
Next, pick your favorite image that you have created last quarter, and write at least 1 paragraph analyzing the image. Describe specifics, form, and content. Finally, evaluate the image. Be sure to describe which project you shot the image for.

Next, pick your least favorite image that you have created last quarter, and write at least 1 paragraph analyzing the image. Describe specifics, form, and content. Finally, evaluate the image.
Be sure to describe which project you shot the image for.

Your analyses must be a minimum of 4 paragraphs, with 5 sentences minimum per paragraph. Be sure to post your analysis as a comment to the correct class period blog post. Your analyses are due by MIDNIGHT tonight, 3/21/22.

My most favorite project of the quarter was the scavenger hunt project. I really enjoyed looking for naturally occurring shots that can be used to convey certain ideas and emotions. This project was probably also my best one. I think my photos in this project were pretty good. I also enjoyed editing a variety of different photos rather than photos that are all similarly themed and shot.
My least favorite project of the third quarter was the color one. It is almost the exact opposite of the scavenger hunt in every way. I believe it is a good thing to try different things and this applies to work too. The project was too static for my liking and I really dreaded making my own subjects. The color wheel is a nice reference for the future, however.
I really like either my sharp or my tiny photo from the scavenger hunt project. Both show off my editing abilities very well and I think they acutely represent the theme for the image. The sharp image was great because it showed the scissors stabbing something. I made it even better by making the blades of the scissors more silver, and silver is typically associated with sharp swords and cutlery. The tiny photo is pretty great at making the viewer feel small compared to the stool, and more so to the much larger shelves looming in the background.
My least favorite image could be any of the still life ones. They were all painful to set up. Lighting was very hard to work with considering I needed to make the colors stand out. The one with the blue cup and the orange sheet was the most tedious because I had to fold and crease the sheet to prevent it from looking to plain and unappealing. Most of the lighting was also made in editing, which is typically not as fun as editing other parts of the photo.

the projects we had last quarter weren't the hardest projects we had to do. I enjoyed the scavenger hunt because we had a lot of freedom and got to pretty much shoot anything that came to mind. the still life was probably last out of the 2 just because we had to create the picture but it wasn't hard.
even though the still life was my least favorite project I think my favorite photo came from it. just because the black and red theme looked cool and I had a lot of different things to shoot and I felt like it made a good image. I shot the photo on a red blanket so the black and red objects really looked good in the final image.
my favorite thing about last quarter is when we watched cars. because that is a great movie and who doesn't like watching movies in class. I also enjoyed the free periods we had because they led to get talks with Mr.McCauley.

The project I responded to the most is the color one. I feel like it was more fun too tae photos this way and a lot less stressful too. This project made me feel more confident about taking photos. I enjoyed the colors I got to take photos of. And editing one or 2 photos to fit the criteria.
My favorite image was probably the one in the color project where I had the yellow and green leaf. I felt like this took a lot of retakes to capture the perfect photo. I felt so proud after seeing how it finally turned out. It made me feel like I was a good photographer. Just overall happiness when the photo turned out good.

Least favorite was probably my one of ice cream. Because I put little effort into it and it turned out bad. It was a bad photo and it didn't show me as a photographer. I regret using that when I could have ben more creative. Essentially I got lazy and didn't want to do anything.

Lastly I felt that the quarter went well and all I just think that the scavenger hunt wasn't my thing. I felt like it was just kinda boring to shoot and had some really easy parts. I didn't really enjoy the idea either. But I still think the quarter went very well.

The project I most responded to was the color still life project. I really enjoyed spending the time setting up the sets for each picture and finding different things within that color scheme that resonated with me and represented me. It was a whole new perspective to create what it is I was taking a photo of rather than finding something to take a photo of. I think it did make me a better photographer because it gave me a better understanding of the composition of photos and exactly what it is that can make them so appealing.
The project I least enjoyed was the scavenger hunt. Even though I did enjoy it at first, it felt more like I was trying to check off the boxes and meet the minimum requirements for photos than to actually find all the pieces of art. I felt like this project just really dragged on for me and was challenging to stay motivated throughout it. Overall it wasn't a bad project, it just wasn’t as motivating as some of the other ones. I think if I had more time I would have responded better to it.
My favorite picture that I took was actually from the scavenger hunt. It’s the image for silhouette. It depicts the reflection of red and white flowers in the river water below. I love the complimentary colors of green and red in the flowers with the white stone border and the muted tones in the water below. I think it is very successful in showing how silhouettes can be interpreted in different ways and it is very pleasing to look at.
My least favorite photo was also from the scavenger hunt. It was under the category of the word soft. My image depicted a mostly dark, billowy background with some muted colors shining through. In reality. It was a dark curtain with lights behind it to give it the illusion of being colored. Looking back I feel like I could have spent more time on the shot and, even using the same subject, been able to come up with a more successful photo overall.

Some of the projects that we did this quarter were scavenger hunt and color still life. I enjoyed the color still life project more because I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and take really cool pictures with different colors. I enjoyed having to put together artists' scenes that would capture different colors and objects to create one colorful picture. I didn't really enjoy the scavenger hunt project because it was like most of the other projects where you just have to walk around and find new things to take a picture of. This project also did not force me to be a better photographer, it was just normal pictures. The only thing that I enjoyed was editing the scavenger hunt pictures. I was able to bring out lots of color and take pictures outside in the sunlight.
One of my favorite pictures that I took this quarter was a picture that was a part of the color project. This picture is a monochromatic picture and the color that was chosen for this project was brown. One of the main focuses of this image was the fake light brown human and the fake art painting hand. These two parts of the image stuck out the most to the photo because they were in the center and the bigger parts of the picture. This picture was taken straight on and was centered in the picture. The table where the parts were laid out for the image, was also a part of the image and it created a feeling of depth and bigness in the picture. The brown background also tied the whole picture together allowed for the brown monochromatic picture to turn out well.
One of my least favorite pictures that I took this quarter was when I was trying to show the word wet. This image had a yellow tint to it and captured a brown cloth that was part wet with water and the other part was dry, to show the wet part. This image did capture the word wet with this way of getting the cloth. But, the image looks very cheap and not like my best work. This was also one of the images I took that I had only 30 mins to do. With a small amount of time left, I had to choose something to picture fast. This allowed for the picture quality to be bad and not show the true representation of what I can do. The image shows lots of texture from the cloth. This image is also taken in a birds eye view and was taken from above the object. The image was also very close up to the cloth, which didn't allow for a lot of the white counter to show in the picture.
Overall this quarter, I produced many good images and some very poor images. But, I enjoyed having to taken different type of pictures and getting lots of time to try and get the best pictures that I can. I really enjoyed being able to edit all of my pictures and try to bring different colors into the photos. I think this quarter, I have gotten alot better at using my camera and having to take pictures that I would normally not take. This quarter was overall [pretty good for my photography skills.

Out of all of the projects we did this quarter my favorite project was the scavenger hunt project. I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to search for different things to take my pictures of. I had to be creative and think of what would fit in each category. I also enjoyed this project because I didn't find it very hard to find things to take photos of. It was challenging but not too hard.
My least favorite project was the color project. I found it hard to find objects with the colors I needed. I didn't find many things with those colors in them so I had to set up most of my photos. I found it time consuming trying to find things to set up as well. This was one of the harder projects.
I took my favorite photo during the scavenger hunt project. The photo was of the sky. This photo had vey good lighting. This photo was for big because the sky is a very big thing. I liked this photo.
My least favorite photo was during the color project. It was of the colored folders. The lighting of this photo was very dark. The photo also wasn't focused great. This was a sloppy photo.

The project that I feel like I responded the most to was probably the self-portrait project. I enjoyed staging events that I would depict as my normal, everyday life. Of course, I developed new skills whilst working on this project, like how the angle can affect the impact of the image and, probably my favorite skill, photoshop. I'm not the best at it, but I feel like if I incorporate it more into future projects it'll be really cool. My only gripe about this project was the "alter-ego" portion because I couldn't really settle on a good idea to turn in (if that makes sense). Other than that, I guess you could say I resonated the most with this project.

The project that I feel like I didn't put my best effort in was the name-game project. One could argue that this project helped with the creative side of oneself, but personally I felt stumped most of the time. For instance, letters like "L" and "B" were pretty easy. It was just letters like "K" that made me stressed out, so to speak. I don't know. You could just call that me being lazy, to be honest.

My favorite image from last quarter that I made is probably my "unexpected" submission for the scavenger hunt. The one of a glass ball beside a tree. I liked this one because I feel like I used the rule of thirds the best in that situation. As for photoshopping it, I was content with how I outlined said glass ball. Even altering the color of it looked pretty slick in my opinion.

Now, for my least favorite image from last quarter is a funny story. It's funny because, if I'm being completely honest, I don't really like any of my final images. Simply put, almost everything in my house is all monochrome. It's all a shade of this light blue that my mom likes with little to no contrast. On the bright side, I think my composition and use of the rule of thirds made up for the otherwise boring color schemes.

I responded most to the color project because I found it interesting finding which colors complement each other. I also enjoyed using the website to find which colors come together to make an image monochromatic and inserting my images to get the color values to find what could go with them to be monochromatic. I also remember trying to gather all of the red things i could find in my house and throw them all on my Christmas tree which was still up in my house because we were too lazy to take it down.

I responded least to the scavenger hunt project because I had spent far too much time just walking around my house trying to find things that matched the criteria of the images we had to find. By no means was it a bad project it was just hard for me to find all of the things I needed. But the worst part was I had a perfect idea of what to do for cold, I wanted to take a picture of the borne city pool early in the morning before school started with the water vapor coming off of the warm pool because swim was still in season when we started the project. But I wasn’t able to because we had to leave immediately after practice was over to make it to school on time so it was an opportunity that I hated to miss.

My favorite image from the third quarter was a photo of a stuffed dinosaur that we bought at a museum on a tree stump in the backyard of the house my dad grew up in. This was my favorite because when I went to the backyard I had the sudden realization that I still had a project to do in photography. So i ran back to the car I grabbed the stuffed dinosaur and went to the backyard to find somewhere to take my photos until I saw the tree stump which i thought would be the perfect place to put it for my photos. But none the less the photos turned out great the lighting was pretty good and I think I did pretty well on the framing.

On the other hand my least favorite image has to be the monochromatic photo/s I had to take for the color project. I had already used a monochromatic filter on the lens of my camera for a previous project so I couldn't use that again and that was my only good idea for the project. So I ended up taking a picture of the stone that made up my porch which felt absolutely awful to do but on top of that there was the very clear contrast in quality in my project with the bright and colorful first two images only for the next two to be awful.

I really enjoyed the color part 1 project. I had a great time playing with the different colors and I almost felt like I was taking pictures for a magazine. It was cool to change up the lighting and angles that made the vibe of the picture change.
My favorite photo would have to be one of my complementary photos. I really had fun setting up (and eating) the fruit that I used. My goal for this photo was to make the fruit look as delicious as possible. I put the fruit on a white paper towel to make the background lighter and more inviting. I used the zoom on my camera to make the fruit look as big as possible. The lighting was natural, but I used my light to make sure the fruit was illuminated.
My least favorite photo was the sharp for the scavenger hunt project. I just didn't really resonate with the project in general and The small tip of my crafting tool was hard to focus on. The lighting was probably too dark and I wish that the image was clearer. The object was on a darker surface, making the vibe of the image not what I wanted it to be. Overall, the image isn't horrible but it's definitely not my favorite.
This quarter was rather short but the projects given to us this quarter really pushed my photography skills and required me to think creatively and spontaneously. I will use what I learned from these experiences and apply them to this quarters project!

The project that I most responded to was the still life color. I learned about monochrome and complimentary colors. I think after this I better understand how to colors work together. The part that stood out to me was experimenting with monochrome and complimentary colors. I feel that my results turned out to be good as well.

I least responded to was the scavenger hunt. I say this because it was just quite time consuming and after a certain point my quality of the images began to decline. Some of the words were hard to visually find. I feel that if the words were more visually friendly, it would have been better. However, not to say that it wasn't a fun project.

My favorite image to shoot was in the color still life project. The image was the one of the plant and flowers. I enjoyed taking the picture and finding the good lighting. However, my favorite part of it was actually going into photoshop and editing the images to make the pink color of the flowers pop against the green of the plant. I also used masks to highlight specific edits.

My least favorite image was in the scavenger hunt project. The image was the one of the word sharp. I used a pair of scissors to show that. The image itself was blurry. Not only that but it wasn't very original.

the last quarter was not very challenging in my opinion because it was a free choice and interpretation projects. I did not struggle coming up with different ideas to resemble things such as the unexpected. I did enjoy the unit because it gave me room for interpretation. my favorite photo I took was definitely the pictures of the orange slowly peeling away into an apple it was a very cool picture. I thought that the projects were very cool and fun I can't wait to see how my final photos turn out.
